this week has been an absolute ride with the unveiling of audemar & swatch’s official link up
1st came a flood of mockups based purely on speculation … which all ended up just being ai-generated slop
by the time AP & swatch actually unveiled the product… folks had already spent a couple days camped in front of shops to get em 1st
only problem was … what they revealed was a POCKET WATCH … not a traditional wristwatch
essentially a piece meant to be equipped like a PE coach’s stopwatch, strung onto a bag like a labubu?
to make matters more hilarious the product is colored in jubilant, pop-art inspired colorways… which some can’t help but compare to a happy meal toy
public opinion continues to rock back & forth
some people are determined to get one on their wrist somehow? (companies are literally engineering aftermarket bands already)
some people are worried about how this will affect the legacy of Audemar Piguet, one of 3 watchmakers in collectors “holy trinity”
scalpers who are in it too deep are still hoping for any upside as they’ve already spent days outside
oh & btw … swatch said they’re not even limited edition … so there’s that
either way, it’s been absolute comedy to watch unfold…
i’m looking forward to seeing how initial release goes, what they end up going for on the secondary market, & how ppl will begin creatively styling these
