A SOMOS Artist Residency with ZAC CHAMBERS
In collaboration with Madre
Zac rolled in after taking the @madremezcal Ă @houseofsomos win by a landslide.
He arrived, Dropped his bags, and got right to work. But not just inside the studio.
Zac explored, searching for inspiration. The beach, the townâs only road. New friends, new experiences, new ideas.
Thatâs where Zach Chambersâ process began for his art residency.
He came to paint, but also to know the land and its customs. For two weeks, the same cycle: out⌠observe⌠return to paint.
He arrived for a residency, but left far more intertwined with it.
And that was probably the point all along.
Full video out now on YouTube.

đ˛đ˝ A shrine of art and architecture.
đľ This place changed the way I see art, space, and history.
đ Museo Anahuacalli. Part museum, part temple, part time machine.
đ¨ Built by Diego Rivera with Indigenous artisans, it houses 50,000+ pre-Hispanic artifacts and still hosts emerging Mexican artists today.
đ˛đ˝ A place where MĂŠxico remembers itself. Visitors get a glimpse into a cultureâs creative beauty (past, present, future). And where I found much inspiration for my own work.

ARTIST RESIDENCY // @chamberszac
As Zacâs residency comes to an end, we welcome you his open studio tonight!
His two weeks flew by, but his time was put to good use, with 13 unique pieces filling up our walls.
âThe last couple of weeks in Santa Teresa were spent working in heat and humidity. Driving through rivers, surfing badly, late nights of coco locos, and crushing cafe to catch the sunrise and do it all again. These paintings come from that pace: raw, physical, and grounded in the space where work and play overlap.â - Zac
Join us tonight at 7:30, have a chat with the artist, and even take home your favorite piece.
Also, make sure to try out our new drink menu in collaboration with ponyboyny !

Recent commissioned piece of the head tailor for my friends at @shopboyny ! One of my favorite portraits Iâve done.
Still have 2 commission slots available before I move into a new studio and dive head on into a new collection. Shoot me a message!
Newest piece.
Some of my earliest painting inspirations were the works of Alfredo Ramos MartĂnez. Pieces I was lucky to spend time with while living in Mexico City.
I remember feeling frustrated that so much of art history was portraits of the wealthy, powerful, and royal⌠while most of life. The real people. Went largely unseen.
What struck me about artists like Ramos MartĂnez, Diego Rivera, and Siqueiros was how they shifted that.
Campesinos. Workers. Everyday people. Painted with reverence. Almost sacred.
I kept coming back to that. Sketching and painting those characters. Still do. This piece holds to that idea.
Art should be of and for everyone.

Acrylic and oil pastel on cotton canvas
Japanese denim. Americana style. Workwear. Grew up in Tennessee around bluegrass and worn-in jeans that told their own stories.
So this one felt right. A piece for a menswear buddy down in Texas. Built around the kind of uniform that never misses.

We're proud to offer the Paâ Todo Mal cap, created in collaboration with artist @chamberszac . â
â
Referencing the title of Zacâs painting that earned him a place at the House of SOMOS / Unknown Roads Residency, Pa' Todo Mal is a small phrase that carries a bigger spirit: "Para todo mal, mezcal; para todo bien, tambiĂŠn."â

Available for preorder now at the link in bio.
For Zac Chambers, creativity has always been shaped by movement. During his residency at House of SOMOS in Costa Rica, he immersed himself in the rhythm of the studio, surf, and sun, letting each day guide his work. We asked Zac a few questions about his time at the residency, and what makes his practice feel fully alive. â
â
Now live on Madre Journal. Read more at the link in our bio.â
