Chamber Studio 2024. For those of you who’ve known the studio in its many iterations and locations, this will definitely be a bit of a shift in vibe. And a shift in style of working. But from the time when Chamber started to the present day, the way music is made has shifted radically and it was time for me to make changes as well. And I’m happier and more creative for it, and I think that shows in the records that are being made.
Can I track a whole live band in my current space? No, not at present. But I can do almost everything here and the whole setup has been designed and built to be portable(ish) so I can make studio quality recordings in any location. Overdubbing / mixing etc can all be done here in a comfortable and peaceful environment. And I will find a suitable building to make the studio permanent again someday.
The website has been overhauled and there are full details on there. It is live now. Any questions from anyone, please feel free to give me a shout. The books are open and I’m available for sessions from early summer. Really excited for what’s ahead and to get to make music with you all again. Love, Graeme. X

Today marks 16 years since I took over the reins at Chamber. Happy anniversary to me! Also, November this year will be 40 years since the studio began operating which I believe puts it among the longest continuously running studios in the UK. So I reckon some kind of celebration may be in order. Still keeping myself away from socials so all enquiries via website / email as usual please. ✌️

I’m deeply in love with Laura Jane Wilkie’s fiddle arrangement for this track, and the way her and Seonaid Aitken brought it to life so beautifully in the studio that morning. I also love that this stripped-back live version brings the relationship between fiddles & piano right to the foreground. It was a joy to record this!

Waverley. - Flail EP
We scurried up to the highlands at the end of winter 2024 to start putting this together. Extremely proud of what we all made and so many laughs were had along the way. It’s always exciting to work with a young band beginning to come into their own. I think this EP really showcases their writing abilities and they’re only just getting started. It’s such a privilege to be involved with projects like this.

15 years. 15 years since I took over that mad little hole in the ground in Granton. I knew fuck all. I know a little more now. And I’m no longer in that basement every day. But Chamber is still my life and livelihood. I’m still grateful to Jamie Watson for trusting me to take over his business and grateful to all the family, friends and musicians who have helped me along the way. It’s such a privilege to make music for a living. I don’t take it for granted and I will continue to cherish all the time I get to spend doing it.

Pre-amp choice is all important when making records and I thought I’d introduce what’s going on here. After years working on an incredible @amsneveltd VR Legend console I wanted to make sure that I was getting the same range of tones but without the hassle of a massive desk. I’ve finally settled on these amazing @undertoneaudio MPDI-4 units. They cover everything from super clean to really dirty and whatever you may need in between and we’re delighted with them. Alongside those, there are some vintage Quad Eight channels, some Electrodyne channels, a pile of @adesignsaudio as well as 4 @amsneveltd 1073 and 8 @wearefocusrite ISA channels. 32 channels covering the full tonal palette.
