Your gifts to Chalk It Up on the Big Day of Giving (and throughout the year) determine how much money we can give out to our community. The funds raised today will dictate what we can afford to give to our High School Self-Portrait Show and our grants for arts education in 2027. Your generosity means we can sprinkle money throughout the region into the hands of our young artists and their art teachers. We are currently accepting applications for grants to be awarded in September, all made possible by Big Day of Giving donors. Check out chalkitup.org/grants for more info. #bigdog2026 #bigdayofgiving2026

Let us introduce you to "The Fancy Goldfish" by artist Jennifer Bailey! Each year, our board members work with a graphic artist to review all artwork from the previous Chalk It Up! Chalk Art & Music Festival to choose which piece will be used on posters, flyers, and t-shirts for the current year. At the 2025 Chalk It Up! At the Chalk Art & Music Festival in 2025, Jennifer created this beautiful goldfish, whom we are naming “Fancy Goldfish,” for sponsor Officer Henry Luckie. Officer Luckie has been a Chalk It Up! artist sponsor since the very first festival in 1991. We reached out to both the artist and the sponsor to get their ok to use the art. "This is such a fantastic surprise, you made my day," said Jennifer. " I love doing the festival every year! It’s a blast, and there are so many just kind, amazing people." "This is a true thrill. I have loved participating in Chalk It Up over the years. It is an example of the best of the Sacramento community. I can't wait to procure a supply of t-shirts for the family. Love, Henry" We are THRILLED to present the official artwork for the 36th Annual Chalk It Up! Chalk Art & Music Festival, "Fancy Goldfish!" You can follow Jennifer @bubbles_and_bright_colors . And please watch this spot for word on SIGN-UPS for Artists, Sponsors, Vendors, and more...coming soon! This is a SAVE THE DATE post.

START YOUR SECOND SATURDAY AT VERGE CENTER FOR THE ARTS THIS WEEKEND! 141 individual entries were submitted for the 25th Annual High School Self-Portrait Show from 16 local high schools, and this crew of local artists, art educators, and art supporters put in many hours judging the show. Chalk It Up to Sacramento will be awarding a total of $6,000 in prizes for student artists and grants for their teachers to purchase art supplies at this event. You don't want to miss it! We have a scoring rubric that the judges use that includes Creativity and Originality, Quality of Composition and Design, Artists' Statement, and "X-Factor" or overall impression. The judges examine each submission, reading over the Artists' statements and examining the work to get to the final award winners. This show is open to the public and will feature LIVE MUSIC (natch, because we are Chalk It Up) by Mariachi Los Rios! 5 to 7 PM on Sat, 3/14/26 at Verge. See you there!

This year is the 25th year for the High School Self-Portrait Show. We are so grateful to Verge Center for the Arts for donating their beautiful classroom gallery for us to use again this year!!! Today is Art check-in day where we get to see beautiful works from our area's High School artists brought in by their dedicated high school teachers. We are expecting 135 individual works of art to be dropped off over the next couple of hours and our volunteers will install the show this Sunday. Exciting!
