Tonight on May 8th at 20:00 the naughty Estonian horror comedy musical Chainsaws Were Singing will have its first screening in Valdivia, Chile inside Casa Prochelle.
The 99-minute cut of the movie will be screened as part of the 23rd International Valdivia Horror Film Festival focused on fantasy, suspense and horror films in different cultural spaces of the city.
The initiative aims to promote Latin American filmmaking and create exhibition and distribution opportunities for new audiovisual works related to genre cinema. Alongside film screenings, the festival includes educational and cultural outreach activities. This Friday, May 8th, and Saturday, May 9th, the Special Effects Workshop will be held at Casa Prochelle, led by Débora Araya. This workshop aims to introduce the public to makeup techniques and effects used in horror films.

The Montevideo based genre film festival has been focusing on independent productions that get little distribution or never reach cinemas since its 1st edition in 2005.
The festival organises screenings in various venues across the city and due to the high volume of quality submissions and audience demand this year, it has extended its programming until June 28th instead of its original May 16th date which is bonkers. 😵💫
Fun trivia: Because the festival accepts projects under 100 minutes, Sander Maran made sure the tighter edit would fit the bill. Hence the 99-minute version will be screened. 😁
