Philly Queer Joy Luck Club Continuesā¦
I wanted to learn Mahjongg as a way to reclaim Asian culture back in 2023. I started this group with a few friends in my home with all of us around the tv learning through YouTube. It grew, and it became a way to connect with my friends over a board game and inherently make more queer Asian friends.
Eventually the group grew out of my apartmentās space capacity and my own capacity to host as often as I wished. The group took a pause.
Being friends with Sasha, she invited me to her new cafe space @chainashtaphilly she was creating for exactly this kind of group. I was eager to get my friends together again and support local LGBTQ business in my neighborhood.
In short, the group is back, please come play, weād love to have you!
Enjoy the procession of the group photos, it makes my heart smile.
P.S. If youāre interested in group conversation, DM me and Iāll add you to the WhatsApp!

Our second book club meeting will be Monday, May 18th, and we will be discussing Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel. I'm so excited to host this after the great discussions last meeting. This book is a retelling of the Ramayana from a different perspective, considering women characters and ace/aro characters as well as challenging gender roles.
Open to all who are interested! Please scan the QR code to RSVP and join! It's okay if you don't finish the book as long as you acknowledge that people will be discussing the book, which might include spoilers.
