Kurupt and Snoop Dogg have reunited for the new single “Survival,” continuing a decades-long partnership rooted in the legacy of Death Row Records. The release arrives during another active stretch for both artists, with Snoop recently issuing his 2026 album 10 Til’ Midnight, while Kurupt has remained visible through new solo material and Tha Dogg Pound projects. “Survival” leans into themes of endurance, loyalty, and longevity, drawing from the pair’s shared history in Long Beach hip-hop culture and the turbulence surrounding the original Death Row era. Kurupt and Snoop first became nationally known through landmark releases tied to the label’s dominant run in the mid-1990s, including Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Doggystyle and Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food, helping establish a sound that reshaped West Coast hip-hop. The release of “Survival” continues the reunion movement surrounding Death Row Records since Snoop acquired the brand in 2022. Over the last two years, Tha Dogg Pound released W.A.W.G. (We All We Got), bringing together longtime affiliates including RBX, The Lady of Rage, and Tha Eastsidaz. Kurupt remains one of the defining voices tied to the label’s original roster. Beyond Tha Dogg Pound, his catalog stretches from solo albums like Kuruption! to collaborations with artists ranging from DJ Quik to Snoop Dogg, maintaining a presence in West Coast hip-hop across multiple generations.

Too $hort has returned with a new single, “Drink & Smoke,” a collaboration that reunites multiple generations of party-driven hip-hop. Produced by Lil Jon and featuring fellow Bay Area heavyweight E-40 alongside Tyga, the record arrived today as another reminder of Too $hort’s long-running influence on club music, independent rap culture, and West Coast collaboration records. The release continues a creative partnership between Too $hort and Lil Jon that stretches back more than two decades. Their chemistry helped define the early-2000s club rap explosion through records like “Shake That Monkey,” while Lil Jon simultaneously became one of the dominant producers of the crunk era with crossover hits such as “Snap Yo Fingers.” “Drink & Smoke” also extends the decades-long musical connection between Too $hort and E-40, two Northern California rap pioneers whose collaborations date back to the 1990s. Songs like the Ant Banks-produced “Rapper’s Ball” became foundational West Coast records and helped cement both artists as independent-minded figures capable of staying commercially active across multiple rap eras. The single arrives during another active stretch for Too $hort, who has remained visible through solo releases, Mount Westmore appearances alongside Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and E-40, and continued touring tied to the enduring popularity of catalog staples like “Blow the Whistle” and “Freaky Tales.” For Lil Jon, the production marks another return to the aggressive, bass-heavy sound that helped define mid-2000s nightlife culture, while Tyga’s appearance injects a newer Los Angeles commercial rap presence into the mix. The combination gives “Drink & Smoke” the feel of a cross-generational West Coast link-up built equally for longtime rap listeners and modern party playlists. More than four decades after Too $hort first started selling homemade tapes out of the trunk of his car in Oakland, “Drink & Smoke” keeps one of hip-hop’s longest-running careers moving forward without abandoning the sound and energy that made him a regional icon in the first place.

The West Coast’s lowrider soundtrack has gained a new entry with the release of “Chevys,” a collaboration that reunites several artists whose careers are closely tied to the region’s signature sound. The single brings together King T, CJ Mac, Poppa LQ, and Kokane, with production from Rhythm D. “Chevys” leans into the sonic framework that defined G-Funk in the early 1990s—rolling basslines, high-pitched synthesizers, and unhurried grooves designed for cruising. That style rose to prominence through landmark releases from Dr. Dre and the dominance of Death Row Records, helping establish Los Angeles as a focal point for a funk-driven variation of hip-hop. The sound drew heavily from the catalog of George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic universe, reshaping those influences into something distinctly West Coast. Each artist on the track represents a different entry point into that history. King T’s career dates back to the late 1980s, when he was among the first Compton artists to secure national attention ahead of gangsta rap’s commercial breakthrough. CJ Mac built his reputation through independent releases and collaborations that sustained the region’s underground through shifting industry trends. Poppa LQ became known during the mid-1990s for his melodic delivery, contributing to a wave of artists who balanced street narratives with radio-friendly appeal. Kokane’s voice, recognizable across decades of features, became closely associated with the extended circle of Snoop Dogg and other West Coast mainstays. Producer Rhythm D’s involvement connects “Chevys” directly to an earlier era. His work with Eazy-E and Ruthless Records helped shape the foundational sound that preceded and overlapped with G-Funk’s rise. The release arrives at a time when West Coast artists and producers have increasingly revisited the region’s classic sound, both in independent circles and through high-profile projects tied to legacy acts. “Chevys” positions itself within that movement, bridging generations while maintaining the cruising aesthetic that has long defined the culture surrounding lowriders and Los Angeles hip-hop.

Grammy Award-winning singer Mýa has unveiled “Just A Little Bit,” a synth-driven collaboration with Bay Area pioneer Too $hort, positioning the single as the final preview before her upcoming album Retrospect arrives May 15. The project will be released through her independent imprint, Planet 9, in partnership with Virgin Music Group. Built on glossy, late-1980s funk textures—rubbery basslines, layered keys, and talkbox-inspired accents—the MyGuyMars-produced track underscores the album’s broader concept: reconnecting the groove-heavy DNA of Minneapolis funk with the polished R&B framework that defined Mýa’s rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s. That lineage traces back to the sound popularized by Prince and his peers, now reinterpreted through a modern lens. Retrospect, Mýa’s tenth studio release, arrives with momentum already in place. Its lead single, “ASAP,” recently climbed into the Top 20 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, signaling continued radio traction more than two decades into her career. The album’s guest list spans multiple eras and regions, pairing legacy figures like Snoop Dogg with contemporary voices including 21 Savage—who appears on the “ASAP” remix—alongside Joyner Lucas, D-Nice, Dizzy Wright, and Phil Adé. The rollout follows a visible stretch of activity for the Washington, D.C.-bred artist. In 2025, she marked 25 years since her platinum-selling album Fear of Flying with a vinyl reissue campaign, while a televised performance of “Case of the Ex” during the BET Awards gained renewed traction online. She also joined Brandy and Monica for The Boy Is Mine Tour, revisiting one of R&B’s most recognizable eras for a new generation of audiences. Industry recognition has followed. Billboard recently included Mýa among its “Top Female Artists of the 21st Century,” a nod to a catalog that has moved between mainstream success and independent control. With Retrospect, she extends that trajectory—pulling from foundational influences while continuing to operate outside the traditional major-label system that defined her early years.

Touted Boston lyricist M-Dot and acclaimed producer Confidence elevate their latest single “Rollercoaster Pt. 2” with a compelling new visual, shot by director SandoFilms at the legendary Cyclone in Coney Island. Featuring legendary hip-hop icon Masta Ace, the video adds a vivid, cinematic layer to the track’s introspective themes of life’s ups and downs. “Rollercoaster Pt. 2” builds on the soulful boom-bap foundation that defined the original track from M-Dot & Confidence’s critically acclaimed album Library Of Sound. The sequel not only continues the story, but expands it visually, capturing the emotional highs and lows that come with life, growth and navigating the music industry. The video highlights the chemistry between M-Dot and Masta Ace, marking a powerful reunion between the two seasoned emcees.
