Super excited to share the documentary accompanying the portfolio of my work documenting and digitizing surveillance archives in Puerto Rico. (LINK IN BIO) It's a project I have been working on for the greater part of almost a decade and couldn't have asked for a better portrait of it than the one by this all star team. Nueva exhibición de Ricardo Alcaraz en el MAC🎉 Acompáñanos a celebrar 50 años de compromiso social a través del lente del fotógrafo puertorriqueño Ricardo Alcaraz Díaz. Este próximo viernes, 27 de marzo a las 7:00pm, abrirá Cazador de Milagros, curada por Christopher Gregory-Rivera. Una exhibición que despliega uno de los archivos fotográficos más consistentes y relevantes de Puerto Rico. Su mirada combina rigor documental y una profunda sensibilidad humana, revelando historias que suelen quedar fuera del relato oficial: desde la lucha por sacar la Marina de Vieques hasta el retrato apasionado de la danza, la cultura afroboricua y los movimientos sociales que definieron el Puerto Rico contemporáneo. La exhibición lleva la experiencia más allá de las imágenes, trayendo a la sala artefactos del propio taller de Alcaraz: negativos, carpetas y los materiales de un archivo que ha sobrevivido décadas en el trópico. Cazador de Milagros invita a reflexionar sobre lo que significa sostener una memoria colectiva y la labor silenciosa de preservarla. ¡Conoce más sobre el artista! Ricardo Alcaraz Díaz lleva más de cuatro décadas documentando Puerto Rico con una vocación inquebrantable. Egresado de la UPR Río Piedras, donde completó un bachillerato en Humanidades en 1977 y estudios de maestría en la Escuela de Comunicación Pública, forjó su mirada en las páginas de Claridad y Diálogo. Su archivo cubre desde manifestaciones políticas hasta recitales de danza, la cultura afroboricua y la vida cotidiana que rara vez aparecen en los grandes medios. Desde la década de 1980, su lente ha documentado momentos clave de la historia puertorriqueña. A barge in Puerto Rico is a portal to a century of memories 🇵🇷 Along the northeastern side of San Juan, Puerto Rico stands Colectivo El Ancón de Loíza (@elancondeloiza ), a modest concrete structure and house that are a locus of Afro-Puerto Rican culture and history. Owned by the Cortijo family for over 100 years, the El Ancón barge once brought visitors across the water to enjoy Loíza’s natural beauty, beaches, and food kiosks—for just 10 cents a ride. Today, while barge operations have ended, the site is a lively gathering space. The collective converted Cortijo matriarch Maria Luisa’s childhood home into “Casa Museo Cortijo,” filled with archival photographs, artifacts, and historical documentation of El Ancón’s legacy. “The space continues to feel more like family and community than an organized structure,” says Gloriann Sacha Antonetty Lebrón, a member of the collective. 🎉🎨 APERTURA DE EXHIBICIÓN: CHRISTOPHER GREGORY-RIVERA⁠ ⁠ El sábado, 11 de octubre, te invitamos a la apertura de “Sereno no me mandes a dormir”, un proyecto del artista Christopher Gregory-Rivera (@cgregoryrivera ), realizado en colaboración con miembros del Grupo de las Ocho Comunidades Aledañas al Caño Martín Peña (G-8 Inc.). La muestra propone un imaginario de la comunidad a partir de una mirada contemplativa a la vida cotidiana, dentro y fuera de las residencias. ⁠ ⁠ La serie, financiada por la Magnum Foundation (@magnumfoundation ) como parte de la iniciativa “Building Dignified Worlds: Narratives of Diversity in Housing and Property Ownership in Latin America”, reúne distintos conjuntos de imágenes organizados en torno a ejes temáticos que exploran el paisaje, la vida cotidiana, la organización política y los procesos de realojo y dragado del Caño. ⁠ ⁠ En palabras del artista: “En esencia, este proyecto es un archivo de una comunidad en peligro, así como una meditación lírica a través de la gente y la arquitectura de El Caño para que todos aprendamos, tal vez, a sentir hogar.” ⁠ ⁠ Por su parte, Lucy Cruz, presidenta del Grupo de las Ocho Comunidades aledañas al Caño Martín Peña, agregó: “Esta exhibición le pone rostro y voz a nuestras comunidades. Publication design and photos for Mellon Foundation’s La palabra que nutra la verdad, The Word That Feeds the Truth. I got to explore the redesigned and reconceived Michael C. Rockefeller wing a few weeks ago for NYT. In awe of the human capacity for expression and archiving thought in objects that transcend time. A lot to reflect on and learn from these objects including meditating on the complexity of how archives and objects become housed, collected and viewed outside of the communities they were created in. El Gobierno Te Odia by Christopher Gregory-Rivera   @cgregoryrivera This project can be seen this year at @fotofestiwal , which takes place from June 12 to 22 in Łódź, Poland. From the 1940’s until 1987 the Puerto Rican Police- in collaboration with the FBI and CIA- watched, intimidated, and in some cases murdered political activists on the island. The program remains one of the longest continuous surveillance programs by the US government on its own citizens. Aimed mostly at people advocating for independence from the United States, the operation, led by a secret police division, tracked over 150,000 people and compiled extensive dossiers on over 15,000.
