Objects in mirror are closer than they appear: I was pulling out of the parking lot at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility this morning after photographing the rollout of the Artemis III core stage—and there it was, filling my rearview mirror. How often can you say you’ve seen something like that behind you while driving? Towering over 200 feet tall, the massive rocket stage was on its way to a barge, beginning its journey to the Kennedy Space Center for its next mission into space. See NOLA.com for more photos. If you’re going to New Orleans, be sure to wear some jasmine flowers in your hair. Full nod and wink to Scott McKenzie and the his song, “San Francisco.” I ran into Darian Aries yesterday while photographing the French Quarter Fest. We were both drawn to the fragrant flowers blooming on an FQ wall. She even put a few flowers in her hair on her way to hear some music. Photo by Chris Granger #flower #neworleans #portrait #hair

Before and after - whole catfish from @willibyscatfish in not-so-chilly Gentilly. This restaurant and market has its own indoor catfish pond sourced from its own farm in Mississippi. The result is an extraordinary plate of fried catfish. The flaky white meat tastes clean and slightly sweet. Williby’s serves plump, twisting fillets or whole catfish, which has a richer flavor imparted by the bones. The meat peels away easily. The fins, dusted in fry batter, are crisp and salty as chips. It’s like the dark meat of catfish. “Everyone talks about how their seafood is fresh and you usually have to trust them; well, here you just have to take a look,” Alvin Williby Jr. told me. Indeed - just look. @willibyscatfish has its own indoor catfish pond, sourced from its own farm in Mississippi. A cinderblock tank roughly the size of a plunge pool just past the register. Its clear surface roils with circulating water and the splashing of hundreds of live catfish. These are butchered and cleaned in plain view. Some customers take the fish home to cook themselves. Most leave the cooking to Williby’s, and results are extraordinary. How does it get here? How do they manage it all? Why does it taste so good and when can I get that crawfish etouffee again? Answers are in the link in my bio, with the full story on this easy-to-miss, impossible-to-forget seafood joint in Gentilly. Archbishop James Checchio, center, began his first official day as the sole archbishop of New Orleans on Wednesday, February 11, no longer serving as coadjutor to Archbishop Gregory Aymond. To mark the occasion, he visited the tomb of Henrietta Delille at St. Louis Cemetery No. 2, where the Sisters of the Holy Family gathered in prayer and extended their hands for his blessing. Checchio also visited the tomb of Blessed Seelos. Photo by Chris Granger @cgranger #neworleans

It took until the eve of her inauguration, walking down the center aisle at St. Louis Cathedral, with a gospel choir behind her, for it to sink in for Mayor-elect Helena Moreno: on Monday, she’ll become the 63rd mayor of New Orleans. “Out of nowhere, like this emotion swelled within me,” Moreno said, speaking to reporters after her inauguration Mass on Sunday. “And that was the first time the moment really hit me.” Go to Nola.com Monday morning to watch live as Moreno is sworn into office.
