CGI Condemn Fire Incident in Akere Spare Parts Market
Members of CGI woke up to the shocking news of fire which destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira at the Akere Spare Parts market in Olodi-Apapa earlier today. While the incident is very unfortunate, coming at a delicate economic period, we find insinuations in certain quarters that the market, largely populated by Igbo business persons, was deliberately targeted by members of the APC to "punish Igbos" ahead of Saturday's governorship elections ridiculous, preposterous and disingenuous.
If this is truly an arson attack on innocent citizens, we members of CGI unequivocally condemn it in all ramifications. We say NO to violence of all kinds and restate our commitment to peace and prosperity in our land. Elections are won or lost via the ballot and the CGI advocates no other means for all contestants. For anyone or groups of people to attempt to milk political mileage out of this unfortunate event and stoke ethnic tensions between Yorubas and Igbos in Lagos is not only disheartening but highly unconscionable. Anyone peddling such rumour is an enemy of Lagos State and Lagosians and as members of CGI, we enjoin you to report them to law enforcement agents to prevent the breakdown of law and order in our dear state by evil minded 5th columnists.
