This song was a real labor of love, and despite it being one of the simplest, shortest and most pop-sounding songs I have written, it took by far the most time for me to finish.
I began writing this song five years ago while creating my second album, but the mood of the song didnāt seem to fit with the atmosphere of the rest of the album, so I decided to leave it off the record.
About a year later, I came back to the song, but struggled to find a vocal melody and lyrics that suited it. Luckily,
@shreya._v breathed new life into the song by rewriting my old vocal melodies, and after that, I was able to write the lyrics to āForeverā.
The song was shelved again, and for the last three years I have been fiddling with the mix, changing small, often inconsequential details. I changed the key and tempo of the track, added synths, subtracted guitars, added new guitars, brought the old ones back, changed the drumkit and re-recorded vocals, just to arrive at an annoyingly similar spot to the one I had started in.
This silly exercise of continuous micro-refinements could have continued forever, as I tried and tried to get the song to sound perfect, all the while waiting for a perfect time to release it. Seeing as thereās no right version of this song to release, and no right time to stop messing with it, I thought Iād pick a day and release it in whatever state it would be in at that point.
