In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we spent the morning with our President & CEO, Elizabeth McCarthy, for a behind-the-scenes look at a morning in her life, a glimpse into the leadership that helps drive our mission forward. We’re proud to celebrate the women shaping our food system and advancing food justice, those who grow, organize, lead, and serve to ensure every neighbor has access to the nourishment they deserve. 💜

We are incredibly thankful for the generosity of our community throughout the year, especially during the holiday season. 🧡🥫Please note that, due to safety regulations, there are some food items we are unable to distribute.   The last day to drop off donations is December 23.  We will reopen for donation drop-offs on January 2, 2026.   To learn which items are most needed by your New Jersey neighbors, please visit the link in our bio.

This week is Period Poverty Awareness Week (May 11–17), a global campaign focused on advancing menstrual equity and addressing gaps in access to products, education, and sanitation.   CFBNJ is proud to host its 5th Annual #GreatBigPeriodProductDrive, led by Women Fighting Hunger, in honor of Period Poverty Awareness Month.❤️ On Saturday, May 2, CFBNJ hosted an in-person drive with five participating @villagesupermarket @shoprite locations across New Jersey 🛒✨ The results are in: 💰 More than $3,600 raised — equivalent to a year’s worth of period products for over 100 people 📦 Nearly 29,000 period products collected 📅 That’s enough for approximately 5,800 worry-free days But the need is still urgent, 2 in 5 people face period insecurity every year. Donate today at CFBNJ.org 💚🧡

The Summer EBT Program provides eligible NJ families with $120 per child to help pay for groceries during the summer. ✅ Some families participating in programs like SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF are automatically enrolled in Summer EBT. ✏️ Other families need to submit a School Meals and Summer-EBT application with their child’s school to see if they qualify. Please contact your child’s school to complete an application, or to update your address if you’ve recently moved. Important: Dual participation in the Summer EBT program is not allowed. Eligible children may only receive one Summer EBT card each year and can not use benefits from more than one State. Don’t miss out on this valuable benefit! To learn more, visit: www.nj.gov/summerebt

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month — a time to honor the contributions, history, and culture of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Originally designated as a week in 1978, it was expanded to the full month of May in 1992 to commemorate the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants (May 7, 1843) and the completion of the transcontinental railroad (May 10, 1869). These milestones represent both opportunity and hardship, a duality that has shaped the AAPI experience in America. ➡️ Swipe to learn more about traditional Asian and Pacific foods and the reality of food insecurity in AAPI communities.

The Farm Bill plays a critical role in shaping federal nutrition programs and food access nationwide. But the version passed yesterday by the House of Representatives will make it harder for our neighbors to get enough to eat and for food banks to meet the growing need. CFBNJ is deeply disappointed that this Farm Bill falls short on funding for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and fails to roll back the cuts to SNAP included in H.R. 1. Read our full statement. Call your senators and tell them to vote NO on the Farm Bill.

🍳 🥐 ☕ We served up some gratitude at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast in Hillside today, honoring some of our most committed helping hands to wrap up Volunteer Appreciation Month! And earlier in April, we held a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for our amazing volunteers in South Jersey. THANK YOU to the many individuals, corporate groups, and community groups who have given their time, energy, and hearts to support our mission. Did you know? Last year alone, more than 19,000 people volunteered at CFBNJ, giving nearly 80,000 hours of their time.
