The 2025-26 summer fire season began in October 2025 and intensified in early January, with Catastrophic conditions declared on 9 January 2026 in several parts of the state. More than 436,000 hectares of land were burnt, including over 1,500 structures.
At the heart of the response were CFA volunteers, working tirelessly to protect their communities. Thank you to all our CFA members for what you do each and every day.
Are you planning a burn off this weekend? ๐ฅ๐
As Fire Danger Periods end across the state, you may want to tidy up your property - but make sure you're doing it safely!
Check fire restrictions and weather conditions, register your burn, never leave your burn-off unattended and ensure it's fully extinguished when finished ๐ฆ Find out more at www.cfa.vic.gov.au/burnoff

It's Road Safety Week and Dan May from Werribee Fire Brigade is encouraging everyone to be more vigilant on the roads ๐
In the last 12 months, CFA has attended over 5,300 collisions. Our teams are fully equipped and ready to help when these incidents occur, but ideally we wouldn't attend any at all.
It takes all of us to drive real change, remember to take breaks on longer trips and slow down on the roads and when passing emergency services ๐
These arenโt your usual candles๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฒ CFA crews and Mornington Peninsula Shire collaborated on a planned burn in Arthurs Seat, working together to reduce fire hazard in the area.
Using a technique called โcandlingโ to remove excessive stringy bark fuel loads, this is part of the wider Joint Management Fuel Program to protect communities through planned burns ๐

After moving home to her local town of Meerlieu, just 2km from the fire shed, Zoe Blandford jumped at the opportunity to volunteer for CFA to reconnect and lend a hand. ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐
With a background in mining in WA as part of the emergency response team, Zoeโs skillset has been a valuable asset to CFA and one she has found to be extremely transferrable! ๐

For mother-daughter duo Brenda and Kim, volunteering for Wattle Glen Fire Brigade has provided a very special common ground and an even deeper bond.
They are just two of the many CFA members who volunteer alongside their family members, encouraging one another and sharing experiences together.
Today, we celebrate all the incredible mums and mother figures in our brigades and communities. Happy Mother's Day ๐

When the Skipton-Streatham fire broke out on 9 January 2026, Yeodene Fire Brigade member Christine Spencer was deployed to the fireground on her very first strike team ๐ ๐ฅ
While being deployed for the first time can be daunting, Christine credits the training and support received from her brigade for giving her the confidence to put her hand up.

Today we recognise those who's duty it is to run towards danger when others are told to leave.
