Printing on Clay 🌱
.
I pressed my lino blocks into a slab and turned it into a planter. I still have areas to carve but this is where she's at. Life's been doing its thing so I've been trying to take it easy and not rush things. I've been trying to keep this piece workable for over a month, so I'm shocked it's still holding up 🌱

I rushed things and it cracked. I was going to salvage it but I decided I'm just going to remake it when I have more head space. Sometimes you just have to break it. (A big piece broke off during the bisque firing and it was most likely not going to survive the high fire).
.
You win some and lose some, it's just part of the process.

New zine for my printmaking class at McGroarty Arts Center ✨
I wanted to keep it short so it's 2 pieces of paper with a total of 8 pages of information about tools, inking and where to find printmaking supplies.
.
I will also be a guest speaker at the Tujunga library tomorrow and will have these available for the teens to take home 🌱.

Ceramic casualty 🌱

A piece chipped off during my attempts at removing the lid. My wadding wasn't the most secure and it shifted during the firing and fused. I saved the piece and glued it back together. I'll be keeping this one and making another. I'm glad I took photos while it was in one piece. Oh the joys of working with clay. It is forever humbling 🌱.

I've been working on making a series of prints that documents the ongoing genocide in Palestine. I was taught in school that something like the Holocaust would never happen again and that people would rise up and resist if it ever approached our door step.. seeing how things have played out, I'm heartbroken and disappointed to see that their suffering hasn't ended. There have been multiple calls for a cease fire yet Palestinians continue to get massacred. Through my work I want to preserve their resilience and share how the people in power turned a blind eye when they needed help from the world.
.
I have only printed one print of this image. If I can find the motivation and energy, I will print an edition and try to sell those as a way to help fundraise more money to donate to humanitarian organizations helping Palestinians. I don't know when that will happen though, it's been a tough year for me. A family friend passed away in January and it's been really tough to process their passing.

I'm obsessed with our kiln gods. It's nice to have them watching over our firings, lately we've been getting some nice reds from the reduction and it's been getting me all giddy with excitement. These are snapshots from yesterday's firing.

It's been a few years that I've been wanting to make larger work. It was due to my previous work injury at Bzippy that made me hesitate making bigger pieces, I was too fearful of making my injury worse. I wasn't able to make much without feeling neck and shoulder pains.
.
After letting my body heal for 3 years I'm finally feeling more okay and comfortable with exploring more things in clay. It's taken me a while to learn how to adjust working with my mobility and learn to listen to my body when it needs a break. It's only been recently that I've allowed myself to do a bit more than before while making sure I rest enough in-between mediums. I'm still figuring things out and waiting for my wc case to end. While it's been a rough start to the year, I'm hopeful things will get easier with time. 🌱
