I was obsessed with the idea of exploring musical structures and narratives using only the harsh and raw sounding Lyra-8 as the source and sound design tool.
Producing and mixing these tracks felt almost like a dare sometimes… shaping kicks, hi-hats or lead-ish sounds out of a non-linear FM madhouse/organ-voiced drone machine was quite fun and confusing!! Hm, had loads of ear fatigue and tinnitus too, so watch out 🔊🙌🏻

Hoje iniciamos um novo segmento da rádio “Noroeste Sonoro Mutante” com a composição “Ultrachula do Castelo” de Alexandre Centeio a quem lançámos o desafio de reimaginar o universo sonoro do arquivo @cheiraamofo (projeto de @irenepeixoto ) – um arquivo gráfico e sonoro de EP’s e LP’s de grupos etnográficos do Alto Minho.
Partindo das sonoridades do tema “Chula do Castelo” interpretado pelo Grupo Folclórico de Castelo do Neiva, @centeio_ recompõe as vocalizações do tema original numa composição abstrata e experimental.

Today we start a new segment on the radio “Noroeste Sonoro Mutante” with the composition “Ultrachula do Castelo” by Alexandre Centeio to whom we launched the challenge of reimagining the sound universe of the @cheiraamofo archive (project by @irenepeixoto ) – a graphic and sound archive of EP’s and LP’s by ethnographic groups from Alto Minho.
Starting from the sounds of the theme “Chula do Castelo” performed by the Castelo do Neiva Folklore Group, @centeio_ recomposes the vocalizations of the original theme in an abstract and experimental composition.
My second solo album Panorama is coming out on the 16th of February via @d.i.s.c.r.e.p.a.n.t - Limited edition 12” vinyl. It’s already available for preorder!
The recording process was very loose, spaced and abstract, I think you can hear it in the music.
The album is loaded with sounds from my field recording stash – think a sneaky outdoor recording of the local big band warming up for rehearsal, day-to-day dictaphone hunts, tape manipulated flutes, a (very outworn) handmade percussion instrument, samples taken from flexi discs of a Majora child’s game focused on instrument identification (kindly gifted by Bruno on my birthday some years ago - today would have been his birthday too), and all sorts of miscellaneous sounds whose sources I can no longer specify. It’s my oddball, surrealistic and exotic take on musique concrète. Hope you enjoy!
