Today is International Sculpture Day. Yesterday it was CEMENT DAY! We started with @elspeth_billie_penfold s invitation to ‘Walk to 3 Corners’ as we explored the triangles and sights of Newhaven harbour. Cement is a new creative space based in Newhaven, offering dynamic art education taught in working artists’ studios for people at all stages of their creative journey.
Founded by artists Julian Wild and Alison Hand, Cement provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to develop their practice through workshop courses, open access and mentoring led by experienced practitioners and educators.
We are incredibly lucky to have Cement join the vibrant arts scene here in Sussex and this inaugural exhibition of works having been produced by artists working there and with Cement is a testament to the work that Julian & Alison are putting into creating a very special place in Newhaven 🙌🏼🙏🏻

To celebrate ROSA’s Spring issue featuring cover artist Julian Wild, ROSA and Cement invite you to an evening in Newhaven on Friday 24th April. A unique opportunity to hear Cement studio artists The Baron Gilvan, Isobel Smith, Vicki Painting, Alison Hand and Julian Wild talk about their work.
5.30-8pm. Talks start at 6pm. (drinks served) at Cement studios and Art School, Unit 10 Quarry Road Industrial Estate, Newhaven, BN9 9DD. Nearest station is Newhaven Town. Parking is limited so please park on Quarry Road or Fort Road.
In advance of the event, artist Elspeth Penfold will be creating her performance walk ‘Lets’s Walk to 3 Corners’ taking visitors from Cement’s exhibition at The Marine Workshops to Cement Studios. Meet at BN9 Studio (above Mamoush) at 3.30pm on Friday 24th April.

Fantastic sculpture taster this morning with students from as far as Moscow, Idaho! We made maquettes based on Newhaven’s rich Maritime history and industrial heritage. These Sculptures will be on show at our exhibition in the BN9 Studio until the exhibition ends on Sunday. Our walk this Friday takes us on a wander to three corners making connections from works in the gallery exhibition to the outside landscape and into the studios @cement_studios .A process I think that we can all relate to.
