A comprehensive look in @fastcompany on #menopause, including why Celmatix is committed to developing therapeutics for ovarian dysfunction.
"One of the biggest lies in healthcare today is that menopause is a natural phenomenon, or a phenomenon that we should feel empowered by somehow, as a rite of passage,” Dr. Piraye Yurttas Beim says. In her eyes, it’s a “public health crisis.”

While we regularly discuss the complicated health toll of #menopause on women, a new study from the @mayoclinic reported on by @nytimes uncovers a sizable financial toll as well. Findings from the study reveal menopause is estimated to cost the US more than $1.8 billion each year, with 13.4% of women having at least one adverse work outcome due to menopause symptoms and 10.8% reporting missing work in the last 12 months due to menopause. These adverse work outcomes and missed days are even higher for Black and Hispanic working women. Link to story in bio. @boss_ovary #endmenopause #womenshealth
Celmatix stands in solidarity with the millions of people lifting their voices in protest and also joins countless more in reflecting on what we can do to make this a turning point for racial inequality. Inequality comes in many forms for People of Color, but race-related health disparities are among the starkest and most resistant to progress. Being a Black female further amplifies these inequities. We have to do better.
⠀
In this piece, our founder and CEO Dr. Piraye Yurttas Beim reviews these inequities and also presents immediate steps we can take to start addressing them.

PCOS impacts one in ten women and is the most frequent cause of female #infertility. However, women still do not have access to drugs developed specifically to treat this condition.
⠀
This week Celmatix announced a major advancement that brings us closer to providing unique therapies for the millions of women with #PCOS. We have identified a novel drug target to be progressed by our Women's Health Alliance partner Evotec and Bayer as they develop treatments for this under-diagnosed and underserved disease.

Should we be freaking out about sperm counts? In 2017, a major analysis of sperm parameters from a number of published studies found that sperm counts across the Western world have fallen by more than 50% since 1973. 📉
If you’re wondering whether “Spermageddon” is on the horizon, check out our latest blog with Dr. Dolores Lamb of @WeillCornell , where we walk you through five things you should consider before getting a semen analysis. 👉Tap the link in our bio to read more.
Happy #InternationalWomensDay! 💞💪
Today we honor the tireless work of women and allies across the world to achieve gender equality and celebrate the achievements of our sisters. We have made INCREDIBLE progress, but we still have a long way to go on issues like reproductive healthcare, the gender pay gap, and family leave.
💪
Want to do more in the name of gender equality? Here are 5 action steps from our friends at @refinery29 :
1️⃣ Listen. Hear women’s stories, validate their experiences and don’t interrupt. 89% of men think they’d be a good listener if women told them about a harassment experience, but only 58% of women agree.
2️⃣Give credit where it’s due and spread awareness of the barriers women face. 85% of men think their workplaces treat men and women equally, when the data and experiences tell a different story.
3️⃣ Advocate for women’s leadership and equality at work. When we lift each other up, we encourage change that supports a safe, more transparent workplace.
4️⃣ Hold men accountable. Make it clear that sexist, racist, homophobic comments will not be tolerated. 60% of women and men agree that it’s rare to see men speak out against discrimination.
5️⃣ Understand that speaking out is difficult. Support each other. It can be extremely scary to stick your next out at work and advocate for change, but there is power in numbers. Talk to each other and create a plan TOGETHER that will enable positive change in your organization.

Today, over 225 million women in low and middle-income countries have unmet needs for better contraception. We find that number unacceptable. That’s why our Celmatix Biosciences team is thrilled to be working with the @GatesFoundation on a new initiative that will use genomic insights to identify next-generation contraceptives and revolutionize therapeutic options for women across the spectrum of reproductive health.

📣PSA for the holidays.
.
To all of the well-meaning close and extended family members, friends, and people we went to high school with but haven’t talked to in 15 years, stop asking, “So, when are you planning on having kids?” It’s can feel invasive. It can be triggering. And it’s 100% none of your business. You may not know the battle I’m fighting, the number of times I’ve gotten my hopes up, or the decisions I’ve made in my life that don’t include kids. If I want to share my story with you, I will. If I want to talk about my path to parenthood, I will. But please, give me the chance to own my own story and how and when I tell it.
.
To all of the people who are dreading the holidays because of this very question, it’s ok to not be ok. It’s ok to tell that well-meaning person that they’re overstepping boundaries, or that, quite simply, you don’t want to talk about it. And it’s also ok to give yourself a break and enjoy the holidays.
.
We’re always here for you ♥️
