It’s tulip season! The blast of color has been very welcome after the grays and browns of this winter. Here are a few of photos I captured yesterday (April 3) morning at the always beautiful @woodenshoefarm .
I’ve been thinking of hiking up here to see the aurora for a few years and got the chance to do it last night. This was taken at 2am after a mostly quiet night of waiting, listening to audiobooks, and trying to stay warm. With a view like this, I did not mind the wait.

Face in the mist. We spent a really lovely few days at the coast last weekend and were treated to a variety of weather conditions, including this beautiful fog. I loved the challenge of trying to find and capture compelling compositions of the beautiful rocks and sea stacks in these rapidly changing conditions.

Yellow overload! What a treat to wander through acres and acres of sunflowers at the @woodenshoefarm ! While there were not many other humans there on this particular weekday morning, there was still lots of activity within the fields as the finches and sparrows and blackbirds darted around devouring the seeds. I found a spot in a part of the field filled with seed heads and waited. Once the birds became accustomed to my presence (which did not take long), the action resumed in every direction. Here are a couple favorite shots from this fun morning.

A night under the stars. I’ve been enjoying these recent late-night outings looking for new (to me) places to photograph the Milky Way. This stream offered several opportunities to align the MW with Mt Hood. I liked this particular composition because I could really emphasize the stream and the interesting shapes the water made during a long exposure. After reviewing some initial images on the back of the camera, I felt something was missing. I wanted to add a mid-ground interest to pull your eye through the image and towards the MW, so I hiked up into the scene with my light. Not an original idea by any means, but I like having another light source in the image.

While out photographing an old shipwreck with a few friends last night, we were treated to some beautiful bioluminescence in the breaking waves. I stepped away from the shipwreck for a few minutes to capture just the blue water under the beautiful Milky Way.
