officially two weeks from graduation and 11 weeks from leaving NY ๐Ÿ˜ผ i kept telling people that Iโ€™m done and done with New York โ€” itโ€™s a bipolar city, I always need more space to breathe, and Iโ€™m growing too fast like Iโ€™m uprooting myself โ€” but you know, its attraction is unparalleled in so many ways and it just keeps bringing people back ;| I know the first thing Iโ€™m definitely gonna miss is my mentors and friends here. iโ€™ve navigated so many challenges in the past few years thanks to their guide and supportโ€ฆall those experiences were really special to me as a human being, an artist, and a woman. still have a lot more to sayโ€ฆbut Iโ€™ll go to sleep for now. sleep is important:)

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ2 months ago, I had an idea: writing a long set shaped like a bamboo forest. The bamboo is one of the most common archetypes in traditional Chinese poetry and art, embodying the spirit of bending without breaking, moving but with stillness at the center. The image has been there with me as I grew up reading and learning about bamboos in Chinese literature, and I thought โ€œwhy donโ€™t we sonify it through electronic music?โ€ After improvising something in the Ableton session view, I brought it to Alan. We surprised ourselves in our co-producing session: for the first time we let something clubby into our collaborative ambient series. With hypnotic dub techno, it turned out to be more than just music to listen through, but music to move through. A way to reset the nervous system with the whole body, not just the ears. Weโ€™re playing the same set again next Friday, in a botanic surround sound room that already knows the piece. Come bend with us, will you? ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Original composition by Cece Zhang & Alan Lecheng Chao, recording available on YouTube & SoundCloud. - - - - - - ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธlink in bio, Early Birds ends by 12pm, March 30 ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐๐š๐ฒ, ๐€๐ฉ๐ซ.๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ–:๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ ๐๐Œ โ€“ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ:๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐๐Œ (Doors at 8:00 PM) ๐‘๐ž๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ ๐‹๐š๐› 147 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249 video by @sawinnn_07

๐Ÿ–Š๏ธAn important lesson I learned lately was that โ€œIโ€™m limited.โ€ I canโ€™t be anything I wanna be, because Iโ€™m a human being. I have my genetic conditioning and my past history that pre-determine me to show up in a particular way โ€” while I can alter some of that with my free will and choice, thereโ€™s always a huge part of myself that just doesnโ€™t respond to my mere will and effort. As much as I want to transform into something else, those things are unmovable. However, that doesnโ€™t mean losing oneโ€™s strength or agency. Though I canโ€™t change 100% of what I am or how the world is, I can change how I respond to it: do I check in with myself when I feel something? Can I give myself more compassion when I see my feelings? Do I allow myself to pause there and tune into my inner rhythm for a moment? Are there ways I can help myself feel better? Iโ€™ve heard those sentences from others before for a million times, but to embody them and finally assure them to myself is totally a new experience, and essentially the path to real freedom. This is not to deny that humans need external validation. To live in this world, we need each other, and we more or less must seek that external validation, but basing too much of oneโ€™s self-worth on that and not checking in with ourselves is leading to an inevitable burnout. And the counterintuitive thing is that taking breaks actually wonโ€™t stop us, but the burnout will. Now when I say โ€œIโ€™m limited,โ€ Iโ€™m still feeling the frustrations, but also learning to find the stillness in the depth of my limitations. That makes me feel alive.

One month ago, on the first day I arrived in Mexico City, I had a surreal dream. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโ€๐Ÿ—จ๏ธIn the dream, the city appeared as a cluster of small castles. There was this complex web of energy flowing between them, part rivalry, part friendship, and I could see it all mapped out in my mind. Inside, the way furnitures were arranged seemed to trigger some hidden alchemical patterns. Then the dream shifted. A group of my peers were running, hiding into a cellar from a series killer or some threats. The castle was deeper than I could imagine as I went down floor after floor, until hitting a massive labyrinth. In the depths, I kept shifting into different people, yet also observing them from a distance in the third person. I woke up late the day after, reluctant to leave that world my dream took me to. A few days later, I was wandering through the Surrealist section at the Museo de Arte Moderno and ran into this cat painting (Alice Rahonโ€™s โ€œBallad for Friday Kahloโ€). The resemblance to my dream is wildโ€ฆfelt like I had been there๐Ÿ‘๏ธ
