After the UN vote, march on December 17th to make the ceasefire real! Yesterday, after two months of refusing to call for a ceasefire, the Canadian government voted in favour of the United Nations ceasefire resolution. This significant shift is the direct result of the mass movement for a ceasefire in the last nine weeks But it’s not a ceasefire until the bombs stop. Now we need to make the ceasefire real. That’s why we need to keep the pressure on our political leaders. It’s not enough to call for the ceasefire, we need to make sure the war ends now. We need to make the ceasefire permanent. We also need to end the blockade of Gaza and restore humanitarian aid the basic necessities of life. Beyond this we need to build a movement to demand for a lasting peace in the region that addresses the root cause of the violence: Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian territory.
