Strophische Gedichten is my new film inspired by Hadewijch of Brabant, Stan Brakhage, Anne Carson, Emily Brontë and John Ashbery, debuting in London this Saturday, March 14th at @goldsmithsuol as part of @reginadanino & @chaplachap ’s Religion & Art + the subjective.
I’ll also be speaking on a panel the day before alongside Teresa Calonje and @harrihudspith about our relation to the mystics, sisterhood, affectivity and academic research, being the third person in the room in the love affair between these women and their Beloved, the question of appropriation, mediation and historical presentism and how we relate today with the mystics of the past. Never been a Van Gogh guy (sorry not sorry) but after visiting the little town where he shot himself in the chest and watching a terrible slideshow in the flophouse where he died of sepsis three long days later I have a newfound respect for him as a sad little freak spending his days down abysmal (getting blitzed off absinthe likely helped)
I have a new “album” of “songs” to which you may “listen”
These started out as improvisations on my neighbor’s piano while I watched their cats. (Hi, Coopers) Then they needed more instruments, then they needed words, then they became a record and now they’re here. You’re never the same person when you finish an album as you were when you started it but this one was an especially big leap. Jump in 🐸
Last June @firecliffs asked @dan_clucas and me to play some Naked City/Lounge Lizards-style freakjazz. A couple sessions in a cement warehouse later, we have an album and you can listen to it now 🎺
