The majority of the entertainment industry remains closed. Federal relief has stalled. The @CostumeIndustryCoalition (CIC)’s Members are without sustainable income for the foreseeable future, as orders have been cancelled or delayed indefinitely. Our businesses and the future of #NYCcostumeindustry is in jeopardy.
The Costume Industry Coalition (CIC) is proud to announce the launch of its emergency relief campaign with a matching challenge up to $100,000 for the coalition, beginning today. All donations received between now and September 25th will be matched dollar for dollar. The fundraising goal for the campaign is set at $4.5 million to meet essential operating costs from July 1 through December 31st. The Artisans Guild of America has offered to partner with the CIC to be a fiscal sponsor, allowing contributors to make tax-deductible donations to the CIC’s Relief Fund. Funds will then be distributed to Members in need through an independent application process. Relief funds will enable Members to keep their doors open until production resumes, covering Member’s rent, employee health insurance, utilities, and other insurance.
In these difficult times, we know not everyone can donate, but everyone can help spread the word. Please share our story.

In May of 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, New York City's costume industry came together to form the Costume Industry Coalition. Our immediate goal is to act as a united front to ensure our future as a vital part of the entertainment industry not just in New York City but around the world. We are over 40 small, unique, independent businesses and artisans--in and around New York City--that create and supply costumes for the entertainment industry. Together we build custom, one-of-a-kind costumes for theatre, dance, opera, concerts, theme parks, cruise ships, ice shows, live entertainments and on television and film worldwide. We work with the industry's top notch designers to manufacture their designs in a highly creative, time sensitive, technically advanced process.

Our efforts employ hundreds of specialty artisans: pattern makers, cutters, stitchers, tailors, milliners, hand finishers, craftspeople, embroiderers, painters and dyers. We infuse millions of dollars into the New York City economy through rent, payroll, and taxes and other expenses. We support the Historic Garment District by buying materials—fabrics, trims, notions, equipment—from local vendors.
