🌌 In 2016, the Tsá Tué Biosphere Region became the world's first Indigenous-led UNESCO Biosphere. Covering about 9.2 million hectares in the Northwest Territories, it’s the homeland of the Sahtúgot’ı̨nę, the Bear Lake People, and includes Great Bear Lake, the last large pristine arctic lake. This year marks Tsá Tué's first ten-year review, an assessment process required by UNESCO that involves extensive reporting and an onsite visit by reviewers. This milestone brought CCUNESCO alongside reviewers to Délı̨nę to listen, learn, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting Indigenous-led stewardship in the North.

A new decade is launched! The technical launch of the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025-2034) recently kicked off at UNESCO with inspiring discussions and events. The cryosphere, holding 70% of Earth's freshwater, is vital for water security, ecosystems, and infrastructure. Its rapid loss poses significant global risks. Congratulations to Dr. John Pomeroy, UNESCO Chair in Mountain Water Sustainability, for leading the Ad Hoc Management Committee for this important initiative! 🔗 Learn more about the decade in the link in our bio. 📸: ©️UNESCO/Maxime MICHEL & Marie ETCHEGOYEN

Neurotechnologies are advancing rapidly and are expected to transform societal areas. While these technologies offer significant opportunities, they also raise important ethical questions. The National Commissions for UNESCO from Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany are pleased to share a new brochure explaining the recently adopted UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Neurotechnology. It outlines how governments, researchers, industry and civil society can work together to ensure these technologies are developed responsibly and in ways that respect human dignity, rights and freedoms. 🌊 How to empower ocean communities to lead change? Developed by the members of CCUNESCO’s Ocean Decade Working Group, this new publication demonstrates the value of co-design as an essential approach to ocean science. Co-design connects policy makers with science practitioners and users to create solutions that are both scientifically innovative and meaningfully integrated within the communities they affect, ensuring solutions are not designed for communities, but rather with them.
