THE POET OF CONCRETE.
In celebration of National Heritage Month, this re-curated exhibit honors the enduring legacy of National Artist Leandro V. Locsin, the visionary behind some of the Philippines’ most iconic structures.
Featuring architectural models and rare archival materials, the exhibit offers a deeper look at his singular approach to blending Western Modernism with a distinctly Filipino sensibility, exemplified by landmarks such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Exhibit runs until May 22, 2026 at Beato Angelo AVR, University of Santo Tomas.

Thousands of wood pieces filled the CCP front lawn on 22 April 2007, all connected by 10 kilometers of red rope.
‘Angud: A Forest Once’ is a graveyard, the wood offcuts representing the living trees they once were. This outdoor installation was created by 2020 Gawad CCP Para sa Sining and 1980 Thirteen Artists Awardee Junyee, in observance of Earth Day.
“Angud” is a term used in Aurora and Quezon to refer to the end of a log where a hole is bored, so that a rope may be attached to easily haul it out of the forest. The angud is then sawn off and discarded. Through this installation, Junyee highlights the issues of illegal logging and deforestation, the angud silent witnesses to the harm caused to nature.

April is National Literature Month, so for our monthly 21AM Collection Feature we present “Self Portrait With Third Eye”, by Jose Garcia Villa—poet, fictionist, critic, and National Artist for Literature! ✍️
This pencil sketch is half of a face, formed by his initials J and V, with an eye that has three irises. It is said that one with a “third eye” has the ability to see things most people cannot, so perhaps Villa intended to portray himself as this “seer” with an elevated perception of the world? His contemporary in the modernist literature world, E.E. Cummings, talks of him in the poem ‘Doveglion’: “he isn't looking / he is seeing”.
Doveglion is the pen name used by Villa, a portmanteau of dove, eagle, and lion. In Villa’s manifesto ‘A Composition’ he says it to be his “true name”.

Happy National Women’s Month! This 21st of the month, we are featuring Imelda Cajipe-Endaya’s 1979 work titled “Mga Ninuno VI” from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) collection. Utilizing various printmaking techniques such as photoengraving, etching, serigraphy, and collagraphy, she produced the series “Mga Ninuno” using images from historical sources such as the Boxer Codex (an illustrated manuscript from the late 16th century containing illustrations of Filipino natives), the Doctrina Christiana en Lengua Española y Tagala (considered the first printed book in the Philippines in 1593), and painter Damian Domingo’s albums.
Imelda Cajipe-Endaya’s artistic practice explores themes of cultural identity, the plight of the Filipina, and other social and political issues from a feminist perspective. In 1987, her involvement in resistance movements with fellow women visual artists led to the founding of the art collective KASIBULAN (Kababaihan sa Sining at Bagong Sibol na Kamalayan). Through exhibitions and other artistic activities, they aim to “effect an understanding of the collective consciousness of Filipino women from which ... transformation can begin by giving a sense of empowerment rooted on the Babaylan tradition”, echoed in the 2026 theme of National Women’s Month, “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”

Happy International Women’s Day! 💜
In honor of the occasion, we present a throwback feature of the exhibition “Woman: Thesis and Antithesis”, which was on view at Yuchengco Museum back in 2023, from 21 March to 24 June. Selected pieces from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) Collection were displayed under two themes: “Women In Society”, which demonstrated how woman as a subject was depicted in art, and in comparison “Women Expressions”, with works all by women artists, which showed their experiences, perspectives, and advocacies.
