Anti-Racist Education in Ontario - Building a Movement and Future for Asian Youth and Families
⭐CCNCTO has organized with 150 Asian youth and 65 working-class parents over the past 5 years
⭐We’ve been connected to folks at the Toronto District School Board and York Region District School Board
📢This work has all been part of the Anti-Racism Education Ontario’s (AREO) Initiative, led by @uarrcanada , with partners including the @cassaonline , @onabse_org and @tamilcivicaction
✉️From letters and petitions to surveys and relationship-building, we’ve been fighting to make sure Asian youth and families are seen, heard, and supported. But as our Ontario Trillium Foundation funding comes to an end, so does the future of this work unless we act now.
💪This week, we look back at how this movement began and why it must keep going! Your support matters and let’s keep building together!
Follow along each week this summer as we share what we’ve built, what’s at risk, and what’s next.

Throughout Asian Heritage Month we have worked to visibilize anti-Asian racism and its systemic nature in our schools by sharing our community members’ experiences. This month, we created a space for people’s stories to be heard and validated. While individuals have shared their personal experiences, these experiences are echoed by many others in our community. Many folks in our community are hesitant to share their stories - some can’t and others won’t because of the barriers they face in sharing or because of compounding and negative experiences that they have had when seeking accountability.
Because of how our community members are impacted by systemic racism in other aspects of their life, when schools ask things like ‘why didn’t you report this incident?’ or make folks jump through hoops to address accessibility barriers, like contacting multiple administrators to receive necessary translation or interpretation services, school boards are contributing to and piling onto the many inequities that our community members already face.
We hope that sharing these stories have highlighted the long-lasting impacts of systemic racism in schools. Now, we ask that you move past simply ‘celebrating’ Asian Heritage Month and work with us to dismantle anti-Asian racism.

Let’s go Toronto, April 25, 6PM! No More Divide and Rule: People’s Forum on Xenophobia & Migrant Justice (link in bio)
You don’t want to miss this. This forum is an invitation. Let’s start with a simple question: why are our systems failing us, and who benefits when workers are divided?
We know something is deeply wrong when working one job isn’t enough, landlords throw us out of our homes, schools are falling apart, we can’t get the healthcare or childcare we need, and when instead of addressing these issues, politicians bring police, enforcement and Trump-style immigration policies like C-12. Permits are being cancelled. Three thousand people are being pushed out of Canada every single day.
But migrants have always fought back. And on April 25th, we fight together.
At the forum, let’s arrive at solutions and strategies on how we can build power.
Join with migrant and undocumented people, community organizers, activists and unionists to build a collective analysis of what’s really happening in Canada - what Bill C-12 means, who benefits when workers are divided, and how migrant organizations are fighting back. Together, we will share stories of hope, struggle and resistance toward a people’s strategy for justice.

The FIGHT is not OVER and it does not end here. As we move forward, we hope folks have gained more insight, become better informed, and feel empowered to begin MOBILIZING to speak out against and challenge xenophobia.
This public awareness campaign has been about LEARNING and UNLEARNING as we discover new ways to LISTEN to one another and GROW together as a community.
Together, we can build a world where everyone belongs and where we come from a place of understanding.

Xenophobia is systemic and creates many barriers for im/migrants, refugees, international students, and newcomers. Everyone deserves access to SAFETY, SUPPORT, and INFORMATION.
We are sharing resources to connect our community members with trusted organizations that provide workers’ rights support, healthcare support, legal services, and newcomer support.
We fight back by building SOLIDARITY, and by STANDING TOGETHER, we will become STRONGER.

Xenophobia is multifaceted. It is connected to anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, and the systems that divide communities while protecting those in power. Blaming one another distracts us from the deeper injustices that harm us all. Anti-Asian, anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism rely on fear, misinformation, and the myth that some people belong more than others. Choose to promote solidarity!
❗Our injustices and struggles are linked!
❗Solidarity means standing with other communities!
❗Solidarity means standing against anti-Indigenous and anti-Black hate!
❗Solidarity means building power together across communities!
As we conclude this social media campaign, we remind you to think of what else can be done in the community:
❗Challenge racism in everyday conversations
❗Support Black and Indigenous communities
❗Contribute to organizing in your community
When we stand together, we are stronger. The fight against xenophobia is part of a larger fight for racial justice. Let’s keep building, keep organizing, and keep choosing solidarity over division.

This Chinese New Year, we didn’t just celebrate, we organized!
Last weekend, our workers and volunteers led a community outreach activity and an New Year celebration. We saw folks talking with community members, sharing their own experience, facilitating activities and strategy discussions.
This is what organizing looks like at CCNCTO, not just attending events, but building relationships, developing leadership, and turning lived experience into collective action.
When workers lead, we build real power. When the community organizes, solidarity and leadership grows.
In this Year of the Fire Horse, we want to see more folks stepping up, taking action, and shaping the direction of our movement!
