Also a little intro for those of you who are new here:
Hi 👋🏼 Christina here. I’m a Black-Filipinx artist and maker based in Oakland, California. I moved to the Bay in 2014 to complete my MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography (RIP Mills College) after a short, but bittersweet stint in Seattle, Washington. I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada; hence my proclivity for ghost towns, dive bars, and desert landscapes.
I’ve been sewing and knitting on and off for many years but did not take it seriously until 2021. I never would have imagined the community I was able to find and am so grateful for it. My favorite things to sew are button up shirts, dresses, & knits; and I could probably knit colorwork sweaters all day everyday.
My day job is in supply chain in the pet industry 🐶🐱 and in my free time (besides sewing and knitting obv) I love reading (shout out to my book club 💖) and watching horror films (my fave sub genre is found footage horror).
I usually build a fit around my shoes, I love a statement shoe — and I have the hairstyling expertise of a small child, so 80% of the time it’s a “roll out of bed” look.

Wanted to post mostly because of fomo but also to say I’ll be beep booping around this month to take in all the inspiration.
I participated in my first #memademay in 2021 with only a handful of makes. The sewing & making community is UNREAL and it changed my life in ways I didn’t even imagine 🥹
Can’t wait to cheer you all on this month with the outfit posts. I’ll still be over here wearing me-mades on the daily.

What’s this? A finished CROCHET project?!
I saw @hojichad ’s version of the #duskbag (pattern by @loosends ) and immediately needed to make it.
I also had difficulty sourcing t-shirt yarn that’s not polyester — I found a great option on Etsy (shredsfashion is the shop name) for recycled cotton t-shirt yarn.
This was an easy to follow pattern! Yes I mean EASY (especially with the video tutorial baked into the pattern instructions). While I’m a capital K knitter; I literally have to look up every video and every image when crocheting, idk 🤷🏻♀️. I still managed to finish this with minor hiccups and I’m super pleased with the finished bag.
A medium sized Baggu 3D zip pouch nestles nicely into the bag and added an interior carabiner for my keys.
Welcome to the Carter household, Juni! It’s short for Juniper, inspired by his shelter name @eastbayspca . 🌲

What’s this, an OOTD?! After the daylights saving slump and constant sickness - the sun is out for longer and it’s a high of 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) today ☀️
Thus my favorite genre of clothing emerges, summer goth looks.
A month ago @openstudiopatterns released the Willow Skirt and I had the opportunity to test this pattern (max waist 57” max hip 69”).
I sewed the size 1X as my waist fluctuates between 39”-40.” The only other mod is that I shortened the hem by 4,” she’s a long full skirt! The construction was lovely with French seam finishes and bias bound invisible zip. Clean outside and inside ✨ also obsessed with the chunky box pleats. I also appreciated that the waistband construction was right at the beginning - so you can fit to your waist and make adjustments before moving forward.
Also Ikea fabric strikes again! It’s lovely, but this print is a bit heavier GSM than the other Ikea fabrics I have purchased in the past, FYI.

Finished my #lakesvneckpullover, a pattern by @ozetta (max finished chest circumference 70”).
I knit an XL, with a finished chest of 55”, which gives me about 10” of positive ease. Only modifications I made was to do 2 less repeats on the folded neckline (since I ended up picking up less stitches than the pattern stated) and used a smaller needle size on the sleeve ribbing as I wanted it closer fitting.
I used Berroco Lanas in the shade Limelight (a great workhorse worsted weight yarn and a more affordable option too).

Cast on a New Year’s Eve project, a #daytrippercardigan by @mjmucklestone , in a moodier than usual color scheme with Lettlopi.
We’re starting off quiet over here, knitting, eating homemade cardamom buns, and doing the (depression-level) piles of laundry.
I’m all too familiar with my patterns of grieving - it will take some time, but I will emerge in my own time to engage in this community I love so much.🌈

Yesterday I said goodbye to my wonderful boy Jordi.
7 years with my goofy, vocal, bread-loving cat. From 4 months in a feral cat room at the shelter to Velcro lap cat.
He was FIV+ when we got him (they can live long wonderful lives) and was very recently diagnosed with late stage kidney disease. The changes in his health happened quick, but we were so grateful to say goodbye at home thanks to @lapofloveveterinaryhospice .
Hug all your furry (and scale-y and feather-y) friends for me.
