The publication of the Safety Guide for Artisanal Seabob Fishers in Guyana marks a significant step toward strengthening safety, awareness, and resilience within our fishing communities. Developed under the Food and Agriculture Organization’s #FISH4ACP project in collaboration with the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies (CCLCS), the guide was authored by CCLCS’ very own Barry Parasram, Programme Dean OSHE and Zaheer Hoosaney, OSHE Lecturer. It provides clear, practical guidance to support safer practices at sea. Covering key areas such as risk awareness, emergency preparedness, vessel safety, and personal protection, the guide is an essential resource for artisanal fishers—empowering them with the knowledge to reduce hazards, safeguard livelihoods, and promote a culture of safety across the sector.

Notably, she is the first female Chairman appointed to this Board in over 50 years.
