The Sky Was A Mouth Again - Various Artists (DOW009)
Following the powerful statement of 2024’s Hunger Is Violence compilation in aid of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Diet of Worms returns with a new international release in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
This time, the project reaches beyond Ireland’s borders, bringing together an eclectic group of international artists to reinterpret one of music’s most mythic and enigmatic songs: Louie Louie.
Titled The Sky Was a Mouth Again, the compilation is a bold reimagining of Richard Berry’s 1955 garage anthem - a song that has echoed through decades of protest, censorship, and counterculture.
Across continents and genres, artists have responded to the track with interpretations that are urgent, fractured, defiant, and deeply moving.
The project features contributions from a deeply eclectic and experimental cast:
Alex Macfarlane
Amber Meulenijzer
Burger Service
Charles Hayward (This Heat, Camberwell Now)
Conrad Standish (CS + Kreme) & Valentina Magaletti (Vanishing Twin, Moin)
Elias Rønnenfelt (Iceage)
ELLLL
Garbaggio (Nic Offer (!!!) and Sadie Laska (Growing))
Guests
I.U.D. (Lizzi Bougatsos - Gang Gang Dance) and Sadie Laska - Growing)
Junior Brother
Lea Bertucci
Leda (Sofie Herner - Enhet för fri musik, Neutral)
Maarja Nuut
White Magic (Mira Billotte & Tim Horner)
Nonpareils (Aaron Hemphill - ex-Liars & Angelika Kaswalder)
Rich(ard) Dawson
The Shifters
@the_shifters_101
Wild Billy Childish & CTMF
These are artists who blur borders: between genres, nations, sound and meaning. Their versions of Louie Louie are deeply personal and politically resonant - unraveling the song’s iconic riff into haunting drones, percussive mantras, distorted noise, spectral melodies, and everything in between.
Available on limited-edition cassette and digital download via Diet of Worms Bandcamp on July 21st 2025, the compilation features striking cover art by Irish artist Cian Walker
