It takes a village of support to keep Cornerstone going strong. So for National Volunteer Week we want to say THANK YOU to the amazing people who pour into our school with their time and talent.
We want to spotlight some of the individuals who have made an impact with their service this year, whether during a Day of Service, special event, or by coming to campus on their own time. We are beyond grateful for your efforts to support our students and school.
Linda Hassett has brought her professional librarian skills to a year-long project of assigning reading levels to our book collection, bringing organization and clarity to our campus library.
Some of the amazing Cornerstone parents also lend a hand to campus events like our Holiday Shoppe, helping young students pick out the perfect gifts for Christmas, Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
Professional Lifeguard Lynn Ruff has come to Cornerstone for several years during J-ROCK summer camp, imparting vital water safety tips to our students.
We are also blessed to have church partners like @paolipresbyterianchurch and @lenapevalleychurch who turn out in force to beautify and maintain our campus and provide essential administrative assistance.

Who better to teach the ins and outs of saving to our 3rd and 4th grade classes than experts like Ms. Solange and Ms. Jennie from @wsfs_bank !
As part of WSFS Bank's "Teach Children to Save Month" initiative, they visited our campus with workbooks and a fun-filled lesson plan to start our lower school savers on the path to financial success!

This recognition means a great deal to me, not simply as a personal milestone, but because it reflects work I care deeply about: building strong schools, serving students and families in Southwest Philadelphia, and contributing to the broader civic and cultural life of our city through leadership, writing, and service.
At @ccaphilly , I have the privilege of working alongside people who believe that schools can change lives and strengthen communities. Who better to mentor Cornerstone middle schoolers than @pennsparc students from UPenn?
Over the last two weeks, an amazing group of Penn students visited our campus to hold fun, interactive mentoring sessions with our 5th - 8th graders.
Having graduate and undergraduate students from our neighbors at UPenn spend time with our students makes a lasting impact on our their social and emotional education. And having thought-provoking conversations with these bright and engaging student volunteers shows Cornerstone students that they have a community of support that extends beyond our campus. Thank you to Chaplain Steve and all of the students who made the time to visit us and share their experience and knowledge with us!

Cornerstone celebrated Read Across America Week this week and we turned literacy and reading into an all-school party!
We decorated our classroom doors like our favorite books, guest readers read to lower school students every day of the week (some in costume!), students tracked their total books read—and made sure to take notes of their favorites—and best of all, we had a parade showing off our teachers’ and students’ book character costumes!
Cornerstone instills a love of reading in our young learners, starting in Kindergarten. And we never miss a chance to take our learning outside of the classroom and throw a party.

Our students now have brand new gymnastics mats, flag football equipment, spikeball sets, and lots of other cutting-edge spots and gaming equipment that make exercise and teamwork more fun than ever before.
Now we just need the weather to warm up so we can take the fun outside!
