Back in March, during Nowruz, our hearts were with the mothers who lost their beloved children in the January massacre. Lucia, our amazing partner, shared a beautiful whirling dance, and her team moved with such grace and grief in every step. It was more than a performance, it was remembrance and love.

This year, Nowruz is our voice. In the shadow of sorrow and longing, we will call out Nowruz louder than ever, for freedom, for those no longer beside us, for the tall cypresses who gave their lives. We will gather together, and we will remember that joy itself is an act of resistance. There will be music. There will be dance, a mourning dance in honor of grieving mothers. Join us on March 14, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM, at the California Center for the Arts Museum in Escondido.

Maryam Bayat: Unrolling Paradise Opening Saturday, March 14th, with a public reception from 12pm-3pm Maryam Bayat: Unrolling Paradise explores the Persian garden as a living design tradition carried through textiles, memory, and everyday objects. Interdisciplinary artist Maryam Bayat reinterprets centuries-old carpet aesthetics through sculptural works that merge traditional Persian rugs with contemporary form and function. Raised in Tehran in a family of rug producers and now based in North County San Diego, Bayat draws from inherited craft to create installations that reflect on place, belonging, and cultural continuity. Her woven sculptures, appearing as furniture, abstract trees, and domestic interiors, extend the symbolism of the garden, linking ideas of sanctuary to personal and collective memory. Curated by Sadry Hedayat and organized in collaboration with Persian Place. @maryambayatdesigns @s.a.d.r.y @persianplace

Head Above the Clouds is built around love in its many forms. The exhibition brings together portraits of Dave Eassa’s family, and friends who have become family. It reflects love as a practice: showing up, listening, staying, and making space for others. In Eassa’s work, love is carried through care, collaboration, and the decision to keep going, together. Dave Eassa: Head Above the Clouds is on view through March 1. @daveeassa Images: 1. What was your last Google Search? In the Google Search Series, Kayla Mattes compiled automated search prompts beginning with “what is,” “when is,” and “why is,” weaving together suggestions generated by location, search history, trending topics, and frequently asked questions. Ranging from the personal to the political, science to science fiction, these pieces reveal what we tend to ask anonymously, and how the internet reflects a shared, evolving consciousness. Kayla Mattes: Reboot > Reweave > Repeat is on view through February 15. Image: Kayla Mattes, Google Search Series, 2023, Jacquard woven cotton and rayon, 143.5 x 45 in. Photo by Philipp Scholz Rittermann

The paintings in Head Above the Clouds are bold and life-size, yet filled with quiet moments. Drawing from family archives and daily life, Dave Eassa treats these moments as worthy of care and attention, creating monuments to the everyday. Dave Eassa: Head Above the Clouds is on view through March 1. @daveeassa Image: that soft magic, 2025, Oil and spray paint on canvas, 64 x 48 in. Photo: Philipp Scholz Rittermann
