Sneak peek 👀
Join us tomorrow evening from 6 - 8 pm for the opening of Sea Dax's show Remember We Must Live.
Take the accompanying workshop, Collage as Counter-Archive, taught by Sea on Saturday, June 6 from 1 - 4 pm.
The exhibit reimagines the tradition of memento mori; shifting its focus from the inevitability of death to the urgency of survival. In response to the ongoing erasure and demonization of trans lives, Dax blends contemporary symbols, personal iconography, and art historical structures to reframe remembrance as an active practice — asserting that survival, visibility, and archive-building are acts of resistance.

Honored to work with @ccaccincinnati making illustrations of the homes on their #homeandgardentour. The drawings are used in the program with descriptions and the originals were commissioned to be given as gifts for the home owners. What a great project to be involved in! This morning I toured the historic and stunning Goshorn House.

My solo show 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘦 opens May 15 (next Friday!) at @ccaccincinnati ✨ here’s a few little sneak peaks for you 👀
I am so excited to share with you the expanded works from my thesis show! This includes unseen paintings from the still life series, as well as new sculptural and collage pieces.
𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘦 engages art history as both a resource and an obstacle, focusing on the covert ways trans lives have been recorded (and often omitted) within western art historical contexts. Through an expanding lexicon of images and symbols connected to trans experience/themes re-articulated through a trans-centric lens, I ponder the fragmentation of memory, community, and identity.
I look to the archives to attempt to locate us within history, community, and what I call “transcestry.” By reimagining archives, my work seeks to empower trans people to see themselves as active participants in the making of future histories, to claim space for our presence across time, and to “remember we must live.”
