Met Police chief Mark Rowley has been heavily attacked for his criticisms of the Palestine protests, prioritising his political positioning over the public’s safety. Nusrit Mehtab, a former Scotland Yard superintendent, has backed calls the Rowley to resign. Rowley facilitated a Tommy Robinson, anti immigration ‘unite the uk’ march, to coincide with the annual peaceful Palestine march to commemorate the Nakba. The police commissioner made false claims that the Nakba march deliberately planned to direct protesters past synagogues. Rowley has also been heavily criticised for speaking at israeli think tank events linked to the IOF. Nakba Day March, London, 16/05/26 Hundreds of thousands turned out to commemorate Nakbah Day and oppose the Tommy Robinson hate march taking place in Parliament Square. This was a day of bringing communities together in an amazing show of solidarity against the far right and their hate filled message of division that is tearing this country apart. Sir Mark Rowley please take note, this was not a march of hate but one of love, hope and optimism. Children marched alongside parents and grandparents, communities came together. Today, May 15th 2026, marks 78 years since the Nakba. Ever since the Balfour Declaration over 110 years ago, Palestinians have been fighting for their right to self-determination. With every passing decade, the fight for freedom has endured changes and has evolved. Multiple collaborations with liberation movements from Central America to Southern Africa, from Ireland, through Algeria, and to Vietnam have demonstrated that the Palestinian cause is an international cause. A cause that exposes every mode of oppression perpetrated by colonial powers all over our world. The genocidal state of Israel is the last remaining example of settler colonialism. The ultimate test for its success demands the erasure of Palestinian life in their homeland. This year, we commemorate once more, the Palestinian indigenous existence, an epic resistance with a tenacious attachment to the land.
