Founded in 2014, CBCS quickly became a trusted resource for comic collectors seeking professional grading and authentication. Since then, CBCS has helped preserve and document countless comics across the hobby. As we look ahead, we’re increasing our focus and investment in the core Beckett brand and our broader grading capabilities, with announcements to come soon. As part of our strategy to focus on the Beckett brand, we’ve made the challenging decision to shut down CBCS. Effective April 17, new submissions will no longer be accepted. All existing orders, and any submissions received by that date, will continue through the grading process as normal. We appreciate the collectors, creators, and grading team who helped build CBCS into a respected part of the comic collecting community.

Did you know that we encapsulate magazine-sized art in a hard case? When you go to your next comic book convention, find the CBCS booth first and ask how you can encapsulate sketches done by artists at the show through CBCS witnessing! We allow up to 8.5x11 inches for our ART slabs, and they all come with a yellow “Authentic Signature & Artwork” label confirming the name of the artist and the date!  The sketch above was done by Rick Leonardi, the co-creator of Spider-Man 2099!

At the age of 14, Jim Shooter already had his own story published by DC Comics. To have done that at any age is a major accomplishment, but Jim was something special. He would go on to write DC’s Adventure Comics, as well as several other titles throughout the years, breathing new life into those stories. Later, he would take over as Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief, where he also capitalized on the ability to sell comics in tandem with new toy lines and TV shows, such as G.I. Joe and Transformers, which were widely successful and still extremely sought after today. And let’s not forget that he purchased the idea for Spider-Man’s black suit from a fan, which later led to the symbiote & Venom storylines. These are only a few of his many accomplishments. While we are sad to hear about Mr. Shooter’s passing, we want to celebrate the life that he lived and honor him for all his hard work and his contributions to our beloved hobby. Jim - Thank you so much for the memories and stories you have left us with that we will always treasure. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten!

Happy Goku Day from Beckett! The first Goku Day was officially recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association in 2015 and is celebrated annually on May 9th. This date was chosen because the numbers “5” and “9” are pronounced “Go” and “Ku” in Japanese, which are the first two syllables of Goku’s name. Today, we celebrate the many contributions the Dragon Ball series has made to the worldwide growth of manga, and as a memorial to the mangaka who inspired many of our modern creators. Akira Toriyama’s work was a huge factor in manga becoming more mainstream and collectible, and it all started with the 51st issue of Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984.

“This is an art appreciation variant, done by Wouter Tulp, an artist from the Netherlands. This dedication was so well received that his painting resides by the ACTUAL Van Gogh in the Van Gogh museum in the Netherlands. I was fortunate enough to correspond with Wouter when I found this book, expressing just how much I loved his work. I asked if he was ever in the states, would l be able to get my book signed. He responded that he was flattered, and sent me in to to get my book to him for his signature. So Donald took a trip, over 7000 miles total and then off to CBCS. I’m the proud owner of the only signed artist appreciation IDW #12 Donald Duck van Gogh on record. It of course needed a frame to match such a beauty.” - Mike Mahler
