On Saturday we recognised World Support Staff Day, a chance to acknowledge the many people who make up our College community. From administration and maintenance to wellbeing, operations and beyond - it takes a village to create the environment our students learn and grow in each day. We are incredibly thankful for the dedication, professionalism and care shown by our support staff, and for the role each person plays in our shared journey.

Our Year 8 students were recently involved in an author incursion with acclaimed Australian writer Tristan Bancks, gaining valuable insight into his storytelling, character development and creative process. CBC Fremantle was proud to be the first Western Australian school stop on Tristan’s book tour, providing a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with a leading voice in young adult literature. Joining us from the Byron Bay region, Tristan is known for his fast-paced, thought-provoking novels that continue to capture the imagination of young readers. Many of our students were already familiar with his work, and his visit further inspired them to reflect on writing, creativity and the power of storytelling. After studying Two Wolves in English during Term 1, our Year 8s are eager to dive into Tristan’s highly anticipated new novel, Raised by Wolves, following his visit. @tristanbancksbooks @TristanBancksAuthor

One of our much loved students, Harley, recently had his bicycle stolen. It's been heartbreaking for him and his family and we are all hoping it is safely returned soon. Replacing it will take months, which makes this even harder. What has truly touched us, is the response from our boys. Mr Burgio has been inundated with messages from students wanting to help raise money for Harley if the bike isn’t found. Their kindness, care and willingness to look after one another is something very special. Right now, our first hope is that Harley’s bike is returned. But no matter what happens, we will do everything we can to make sure Harley has a bike again. Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with support and love for Harley. It means more than you know.

Over two days this week, our Year 10 students took part in Development Days. It is a pause in the term focused on service, wellbeing and looking ahead. As part of their Faith in Action / Men for Others retreat, students stepped beyond the classroom to serve the wider community. Building on the foundations laid through The Rite Journey, the experience invited the boys to live out servant leadership in practical ways, connecting justice, solidarity, and Gospel values with real action. The program also included the Kai Fella workshop, where students were encouraged to reflect on identity, mental health, and the kind of men they want to become, alongside a Careers Day that helped them begin shaping goals for the future. Through conversation, reflection and guidance, students were supported to think intentionally about life beyond Year 10. Together, the two days offered space for growth, helping our young men develop self‑awareness, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of their place within the community.

Yesterday, our College community came together in a powerful show of support for Do It For Dolly Day. Led by our Year 12 student leaders, the day was filled with colour and a shared commitment to raising awareness around kindness, bullying prevention and mental health. From wearing blue and sharing cupcakes to cheering on the lunchtime netball match, there was a strong sense of unity across the campus. We extend our thanks to Iona Presentation College for joining us for the netball match, which was played in great spirit and decided by just two goals, a fitting reflection of the positive energy and camaraderie of the day. Most importantly, the day sparked meaningful conversations, reminding us that small actions can make a big difference and that kindness is a choice we make every day. All funds raised will go directly to Dolly’s Dream, supporting vital programs and resources for young people and families across Australia. These photos capture some of the highlights from the day. Thank you to everyone who supported the cause and helped make it such a meaningful experience for our community. Do it for Dolly. Always.

Earlier this year in Science in Practice, our Year 12 students headed to Point Walter Reserve for a hands on fieldwork excursion focused on the health of our local waterways. The day began with students working with an interactive 3D catchment model, helping them visualise how land use influences rivers and wetlands. Through discussion and experimentation, they explored how pollutants move through ecosystems, tested different management strategies, and considered the everyday actions we can take to care for our waterways. Out in the field, the boys stepped into the role of environmental scientists by collecting data directly from the Swan River and surrounding wetlands. Their work included testing water quality, identifying macroinvertebrates, examining wetland ecosystems, and investigating the impact of human activity on river health. Being immersed in the environment allowed students to connect theory to place, developing practical skills while gaining an appreciation for the responsibility we share in protecting fragile natural systems. The data collected during the day will feed into their next stage of investigation back in the classroom. The excursion was a purposeful and engaging learning experience, and a powerful reminder that science is at its best when it helps us understand and care for the world around us.

What a fantastic day of competition at our House Athletics Carnival yesterday. Students threw themselves into every event with energy and plenty of House pride on display throughout the day. The atmosphere was electric, and the level of participation and encouragement from students and staff made it a great celebration of sport and community. With the results incredibly close across the events, final scores are currently being checked to ensure everything is accurate before we officially announce the Champion Boys and House rankings. More photos and the final results will be shared soon - stay tuned!

Our Year 7 Basketball team enjoyed a great day representing CBC Fremantle at the ACC Lightning Carnival. The Carnival provided a fantastic opportunity for the boys to play in a fun, fast‑paced environment, testing their skills while enjoying the spirit of competition. Just as importantly, they relished the chance to meet and interact with students from other schools, building confidence and friendships along the way. With plenty of enthusiasm and smiles on display, the day was a positive experience for our Year 7s as they continue to settle into College life. A great introduction to ACC sport and a day the boys enjoyed.

Our students are hungry for ideas, discussion, and global thinking! CBC Fremantle is excited to be hosting its own FUN Model United Nations (FUNMUN) event in Week 9, Term 2, welcoming students from Years 7 to 12 for a full day of debate, collaboration and critical thinking. FUNMUN offers students the chance to step into the role of international delegates, building skills in public speaking, research, diplomacy and problem solving, all within a supportive and engaging environment. The day will centre on a General Assembly, giving students a real world insight into how nations work together to respond to global issues. Designed to be both educational and enjoyable, FUNMUN encourages students to speak with confidence, listen respectfully, and consider perspectives beyond their own, skills that serve them well both inside and outside the classroom. We won’t Spain all the details just yet, but there’s Norway we can pass a strong resolution without some fresh voices at the table.

Our Year 10 students experienced a dynamic session with freestyle rapper Macshane, as he brought his Rhythm and Poetry workshop to life in the newly refurbished Waterford Theatre — its very first use. Through a combination of performance and conversation, Macshane explored the power of words, rhythm and storytelling, showing how language can be used to express ideas with creativity and confidence. His ability to think on his feet and connect with students made the experience both memorable and inspiring. The visit came at an ideal time in the students’ learning, as they continue to engage with poetry in a meaningful and personal way. Encouraging students to draw on their own voice, Macshane highlighted the importance of reading, vocabulary and self expression while demonstrating how these skills can open doors both within and beyond the classroom. There was a real sense of energy in the theatre as students responded to the workshop, beginning to see poetry not just as something to analyse, but as something they can create, perform and own. A powerful reminder that creativity, confidence and expression go hand in hand and that everyone has a voice worth sharing. MACSHANE @macshaneonthemic
