Baler Hospital [3/3] Baler, Philippines Baler Hospital is CAZA’s first healthcare commission. We undertook extensive research and consultation, particularly with contacts in the Philippines to understand the cultural specificity required in the design. As the first thing people see upon entry, the chapel at Baler Hospital is an important part of the design. Clad in the same stone used for the landscape walls, it also features custom-designed screen bricks that wrap the apse and infuse the space with light. The chapel provides people with space to retreat from the intensity of a hospital and fuse ground with sky. #philippines #healthcaredesign #hospitaldesign #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

Baler Hospital [2/3] Baler, Philippines Surrounded by mountains and lush tropical greenery, Baler Hospital is a model for medical facilities in rural environments. This stone-clad rural hospital is interspersed with garden courtyards that anchor the hospital’s various departments, maximizing natural lighting and connecting staff and patients with the landscape. A central circulation path organizes the interior program and allows efficient services and supplies deliveries to both the trauma center and hospital zones. The hospital’s perimeter portico acts as an iconic edge that allows the different interior functions to be legible from the exterior. #philippines #healthcaredesign #hospitaldesign #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

Baler Hospital [1/3] Baler, Philippines Baler Hospital is located in a rural area of the Philippines with poor access to comprehensive health services. It combines a general hospital and a trauma center into a single facility that serves regional needs and fortifies emergency response capabilities. For the project, CAZA developed a specialized structural grid that efficiently accommodates the exacting spatial requirements of both the hospital and trauma center programs. The 9-meter by 9-meter structural grid supports a range of programs and specialized room layouts, enabling the hospital to adapt as new needs emerge. The design is both a pragmatic and futuristic solution to the challenge of a specialized and exacting program that combines two highly specialized functions under one roof. #philippines #healthcaredesign #hospitaldesign #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

100 Walls Church [3/3] Cebu, Philippines This project explores how design can support the role of the Church in the Philippines in both establishing strong ties within a community and guiding the individual spiritual lives of its members. Within the church, no room is completely bound by four walls. Each is at once complete unto itself and interwoven with the surrounding spaces. Through this interplay of connectivity and separation, the 100 Walls Church invites its members to participate in moments of both community and solitude. #philippines #religiousarchitecture #churchdesign #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

100 Walls Church [2/3] Cebu, Philippines The design for the 100 Walls Church challenges what sacred spaces look like today. It invites us to wander around its grounds and discover sunken gardens, pockets of blue light and an enigmatic profusion of talismanic walls. The multitude of doors and passages serve as a reminder that there are as many paths as there are lives and that a sacred space today should draw out meaning in its inscrutability. #philippines #religiousarchitecture #churchdesign #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

100 Walls Church [1/3] Cebu, Philippines 100 Walls Church features a complex arrangement of walls with different heights and widths. All the walls are placed in only one direction, making the building completely opaque from one side and completely transparent in the opposite view. The walls are aligned along a grid that follows the spacing of the pews marking the relationship between the two: the minute scale of the individual and the cosmic scale of the universe. The monolithic quality of the walls plays off the fleeting reality of the colored light that filters through the clerestory windows. The result is an “anti-form” that reinforces the mystery of religion. #philippines #religiousarchitecture #churchdesign #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

CAZA's Santuario de La Salle won the 2024 Popular Choice of the Architizer A+Award in the Religious Buildings & Memorials category. The design is a new, inclusive religious space nestled within a larger campus masterplan we created for De La Salle University in Biñan City. In a bustling university campus, Santuario de La Salle allows people to connect with their faith, their religious community, and nature. It weaves together culture and ecology, offering congregants a different idea of spiritual inclusiveness. Thank you all for your support. La Vega. La Vega, Colombia. [3/3] Natural materials and an ethos of sustainability bring guests close to the land: gardens harvest and recycle water, the buildings cool themselves through passive ventilation, and the communal amenities offer tranquil places to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. #lavega #wellnessdesign #wellnessarchitecture #architecturelandscape #ecologicalarchitecture #colombiatravel #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer #archilife #archdaily

La Vega. La Vega, Colombia. [1/3] Set in the lushly vegetated foothills by a river, this unique community is an idyllic sanctuary for both mind and body. The architecture emerges from the shifting elevations of the site, integrating the buildings into the terraced hillsides to create a sense of communion with the setting and offer commanding views out over the valleys.  #lavega #wellnessdesign #wellnessarchitecture #architecturelandscape #ecologicalarchitecture #colombiatravel #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer #archilife #archdaily

Cebu BRT [3/3] Cebu, Philippines Cebu’s Bus Rapid Transit system is designed to serve 15-25% of the population and create connections to three other cities in the Philippines. It is the first transit system of its kind in the country that services an entire metropolitan area, connecting a historic district with the international airport and fast-growing regions on the periphery. The project is a landmark for a country struggling to figure out how to improve the lives of its citizens and resolve transportation challenges with limited resources. Both pragmatic and expressive, this is an infrastructure project that opens up a dialogue about how to localize progress in different cultures. #philippines #publictransit #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer

Cebu BRT [2/3] Cebu, Philippines Cebu BRT Stations are designed with an attentiveness to the city’s extreme weather conditions—extreme heat and extreme rain. Stations provide both shading and ventilation. The roof and canopy structure is folded in such a way that the movement of water is channeled alternatingly to one side of the roof every eight meters, helping alleviate the water pressure on the roads. It also directs water away from passengers as they go from the covered platforms to the buses. Rainwater trains toward retention tanks to minimize street flooding. The stations are intentionally designed to be more open and expressive than the often uninspired and technocratic aesthetic of other BRT schemes around the world. #philippines #publictransit #philippinearchitecture #cazaarch #design #designhunter #designmilk #designprocess #architect #archilovers #architecture #architizer
