POV: you found a charming little town on the California coast 🌊
Cayucos has that thing. You know the one, where you park the car, start walking, and suddenly you’re not in a hurry anymore.
A mural around the corner, a windmill, swings on the beach, and local shops that make you want to stay just a little longer.
This is your sign to make a stop. 🤍

The Lost at Sea Memorial Day Service is a Cayucos tradition unlike any other such tribute in California. Held annually on Memorial Day at 3 PM at Cayucos Pier, the ceremony honors military members, fishermen and civilians lost at sea. It features a series of key highlights:
🌊 Procession: A bagpipe-led march to the end of the pier following devotional tributes and a national anthem.
🌊 Blessing of the Wreath: Participants are invited to touch a large wreath of remembrance before it’s tossed into the ocean.
🌊 Military Honors: A rifle salute and the playing of “Taps”.
🌊 Aerial Flyover: A poignant “Missing Man” formation flyover by vintage warplanes from the @estrellawarbirdsmuseum .
The Lost at Sea memorial, sponsored by @cayucosrotary , falls this year on Monday, May 25. Mark your calendar now for this memorable event. 🇺🇸

Step into the @seashantycayucos and experience one of Cayucos' oldest traditions. But first, take it back to the 80s: Billy and Carol, the owners, first met at Chuck's Steak House in Orange County. She was behind the bar, and he was in the kitchen, always wearing his signature baseball caps instead of traditional chef hats.
This quirk caught on, and soon, regulars started bringing him new hats. By the time Billy and Carol opened the Sea Shanty in 1983, Billy had amassed hundreds of hats. Carol decided they wouldn't be taking over the house, so she hung them on the ceiling instead! 😆
This unconventional decision turned into a beloved tradition. Ever since, customers have been bringing in hats and leaving their mark. Today, the collection has grown to thousands, each with its own story. And the best part? You can still contribute to the ceiling!
Another Sea Shanty tradition: All the hats are taken down, washed and replaced by family members who all gather together on Thanksgiving. 🤙🏼
SWIPE for a trip down memory lane!

Did you catch the cyclists of varying backgrounds and bikes riding through Cayucos this morning? They were part of the inaugural @centralcoastclassico launched by local cycling enthusiast and restauranteur Aaron Linn, along with help from cycling friends and tourism industry professionals. @seashantycayucos catered a munchie station for riders from Cambria enroute to Old Creek Road and Highway 46 back to Cambria. The Cayucos route was among different tour options for the 150+ riders spending the weekend on the Central Coast for the special event from Friday-Sunday.

Here in Cayucos we take pride in our clean trails and beaches while encouraging you to please pack out what you pack in, and consider carrying litter bags on walks to remove any trash that you do see. While Earth Day is celebrated every April 22 to raise awareness about environmental protection, promote sustainability, reduce pollution and preserve natural resources for future generations, every day is a good day to learn more about the local environment we aim to protect.
Here’s a suggested way to do just that:
🌊 Join the Cayucos Land Conservancy in becoming "Citizen-Scientists" at Estero Bluffs State Park. This self-guided activity lets you document plants and animals, helping track species, monitor ecosystem health and create a local species list.
🌊 To get started, download the iNaturalist app, take pictures of the plants and animals you encounter, and upload them to the app. The iNaturalist community will help confirm or suggest identifications.
🌊 The Estero Bluffs State Park Project on iNaturalist is ongoing, with over 100 "Observers" recording hundreds of "Observations" of various species.
🌊 Observations have included Invertebrates like Mollusks and Sea Stars and Vertebrates like Fish, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds and Mammals.
Explore the Estero Bluffs on your own time as a "Citizen-Scientist" with iNaturalist by visiting
