Behind the Scenes: Preparing for Our Big Jumble & Table Top Sale A successful community event starts long before the doors open! Over the 2-day lead up to our amazing Jumble & Table Top Sale, there was plenty happening behind the scenes to make it all possible. From unpacking, unloading, and organising donations with the fantastic corporate volunteers from @inkinddirect creating hygiene bags, every helping hand made a difference. Our incredible Caxton House volunteers also worked tirelessly setting up the room, sorting tables, arranging items, and getting everything ready for the big day. Without our volunteers, events like this simply wouldn’t be possible. Their time, energy, and dedication help us bring the community together and continue supporting those who need us most. We wanted to share a little insight into the hard work, teamwork, and community spirit that goes into running our events — and to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone involved! #CaxtonTurns50

Thanks to your generosity and community spirit, we raised an incredible £1,000 towards our upcoming 50th Celebration Event! From donating items and booking tables to shopping and spreading the word, every contribution helped make the day a fantastic success. A Dive Into Our Archives In November 1978, tucked behind Caxton House Settlement, Hillside Park was once dubbed the best in Britain. What was once a disused strip between houses became a much-needed park for local youngsters.

A Dive Into Our Archives: As we turn 50 years old this year, we’ve been taking a look back at Caxton House’s early days. Here is a glimpse of the very first Caxton House newsletter, CHAT, published within the first six months of the building opening. The newsletter offers a fascinating snapshot of community life at the time — including diary ticket prices as low as 25p! From the very beginning, Caxton House was created with the community at its heart. The most immediate need was a welcoming, pleasant place to meet. In response, a nursery, youth club, and a day room for pensioners were established, with the Citizens Advice Bureau also moving into the building. A full copy of the very first edition of the CHAT newsletter can be found on our Facebook page, offering a wonderful look back at where it all began.

Spotlight On: Our Community Quilt Our community quilt is now on permanent display in our centre reception for everyone to enjoy. It stands as a heartfelt love letter to Caxton House, with each individual square illustrating what Caxton Community Centre means to its creator, and celebrating the many classes, activities, and shared moments that bring our Islington community together.

✨ Big changes behind the scenes! Over the Christmas period closure, we had our hall floor resurfaced and added some incredible new wall pieces, bringing colour and personality to what were once blank walls. From our collaboration with the @roadrunart Road Run Street Art Festival 2024, we’re proud to finally give these works a home.
