ANNOUNCING AMUSE: A Neo-Burlesque Myth
This June, The Cauldron Performing Arts presents Amuse, a bold new neo-burlesque performance that reclaims a story history tried to control.
A legendary courtesan, Phryne, steps out of history and onto the stage to confront the myths written about her. Through burlesque, striptease, and imaginative storytelling, she challenges narratives shaped by the male gaze and asks what it would mean if she had always been in control.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the art of Burlesque? Need a little help to develop an act? Already have an act that you want to make a little more... theatrical?
This course is created for three different types of people! Theatre people who have been wanting to dip their toes into burlesque, burlesque performers who want to learn practical tools to make their work more theatrical, and anyone who has interest in burlesque and would like to be guided through the process of creating an act!
In this course, participants will learn a group choreography to expand their burlesque choreographical repertoire; be coached and guided through creating a solo act; do practical exercises to create burlesque that tells a story, connects with the audience, and allows the performer to shine; and finally perform in an end-of course performance for friends and family. All of this in a low stakes, friendly and playful environment.
