Catskill Weaving School

Special Announcement: The time has come for a change. We are moving the Catskill studio to Kingston, NY. The new studio will be in the Shirt Factory building, located within the Midtown Arts District of Kingston. Our new neighbors include: Kingston Bread @kingstonbread ,Tubby’s @tubbyskingston , Upstate Films @upstate_films , Westkill Supply @westkillsupply , as well as other fun arts and cultural organizations. The building itself contains artist studios, designers, filmmakers, creative small businesses, and other educational spaces such as Kingston Ceramics and Hudson Valley Silverworks. The space is similar in size and the plan is to continue with the same class offerings, beginning on May 15. There is a bit of an overlap with the leases, so I am hoping for a smooth and seamless transition between the two studios. New summer classes and additional info will announced in early May. Next weekend: Tapestry Weaving on a Frame Loom w/ @mbbunny 🧶🎨 April 4, 10-5pm, Catskill, NY All levels welcome. Tapestry Weaving on a Frame Loom will cover the basics of weft-faced tapestry techniques as well as setting up and weaving on a Schacht tabletop frame loom. The frame loom is a simple, portable tool which can be used to make wall hangings or small textile squares to be pieced together into a larger project. This is the perfect class for the very beginner weaver. Participants will learn how to warp their loom and be introduced to plain weave as well as a variety of weaving techniques, such as clasped weft, slit weave, lace weaves, and hatching.

This month in Catskill✨: Darning on Knitwear, Mar. 21 (Sat), 10-4pm, with @katrinarodabaugh Visible Mending is a wonderful way to practice hand-stitching and sustainability by extending the life of our textiles. Simple stitches transform torn or distressed garments and homewares through thoughtful repairs. Darning is a hand-stitching technique that combines basic stitches, simple weaves, and design elements. The class will consider the creative opportunity in mending through careful consideration of materials, design, and stitching techniques. All mending will focus on hand-sewing on knitwear. New class coming your way!: Darning on Knitwear with Katrina Rodabaugh, Mar. 21 (Sat), 10-4pm Registration for this class and all spring classes opens Tuesday, Feb. 3 🧶 Mending is a wonderful way to practice hand-stitching and sustainability by extending the life of our textiles. This workshop will lead participants through an overview of basic darning techniques before turning to a textile that needs mending. Katrina will discuss how best to repair garments considering materials, utility, beauty, and more.
