Every year, tucked away in a lovely cottage on Kahshe Lake, Ont., the annual Paculaba family cottage reunion takes place. The gathering centers around the roasting of traditional Filipino lechón.
“Hosted ny Farah and Mike, by the time all the children, grandchildren, and partners arrive, there will be at least 30 people here, spanning about seven decades in age and 4 generations. All the beds, all the couches, and a small settlement of tents behind the bunkie will be full.”.

It was lovely spending the weekend with the Paculabas and Reucks, who treated me as one of theirs. I’m already a nostalgic guy, and it reminded me of a time when my larger family gathered like this all in one place over food and a shared story. My heart left as full as my stomach. 🇨🇦🍁☀️🍉🏕️

In one of the most vulnerable corners of Toronto, a short drive up from where I grew up, development of the Finch West LRT disrupts commuting, home life and businesses in a chaotic landscape of construction, detritus and detours.
