This book fairy is sharing a copy of Pinch Perkins and the Midsummer Curse by Cathy Fitzgerald! Will you be lucky enough to spot it on the Isle of Wight?
About the book:
Midsummer’s Eve is about to get a whole lot more magical! Someone is misusing magic. Curses have been cast and terrifying creatures are on the move…
Twelve-year-old Pinch Perkins lives on Tricky Dragon Lane, deep in the heart of London’s magical quarter. But when her mum is struck by a curse, and nobody seems to have a clue what to do, Pinch knows it’s down to her to find a cure.
Racing the clock on Midsummer's Eve, Pinch will face the terrifying boss of the Thames Mudlarks, dance with the devious fairy king and queen and share a burger with King Arthur's knights… all while trying to avoid the clutches of two fearsome villains out to SQUISH her!

This time last year, I published my first children’s book: Pinch Perkins and the Midsummer Curse. A second, Pinch Perkins and the Nightmare Tree, followed in January.
They’re magical adventure stories for 8–12 year olds, full of mystery, folklore, and a fiercely independent hero (she regularly tells me what to do.) Illustrations are by the brilliant @chloe_dominique
Reviews from kids, parents, and librarians have been really lovely — but like many books, they’ve rather flown under the radar.
With midsummer around the corner (and the first book set during this very time), I’d love to get Pinch Perkins into more young readers' hands this summer.
If you know a child, school, library, or book-loving family who might enjoy a fast-paced, magical read, they’re available now.
And if you’ve read one (or both!), would you consider leaving a review on Amazon, Goodreads or Waterstones? They can really make a difference.
Thank you for helping spread the word.

Bookseller Charlotte had a fabulous day on Thursday with author @cathyfitzg visiting Christ the King and St Thomas More in Coventry to celebrate the publication of the latest book in the Pinch Perkins series - Pinch Perkins and the Nightmare Tree! 🪄 🌲
It was so lovely to spend WBD in two fabulous schools promoting the importance of books and reading for pleasure 📚

Had such a nice World Book Day hanging out with Charlotte from Kenilworth Books. We visited Christ the King Primary School and St Thomas More Primary School, both in Coventry. The costumes were amazing! And the kids had such brilliant ideas for stories. Many seemed to involve sentient cheese. Egg & bacon butty for lunch… Go visit Kenilworth Books if you’re in the neighbourhood - top notch booky folk and very kind.
Here's the bold and brave Amazon queen, Penthesilea. She winds the men up so much they resort to telling her ‘girls can’t fight.’
Says who?
Loved making this episode of @bbcradio4 Moving Pictures featuring a tapestry from @vamuseum . It depicts the Trojan war - all the rage in the Renaissance.

Making Moving Pictures for @BBCRadio4 is a ridiculously lovely ‘job’. I get to talk to clever, funny experts about artworks that excite them and I can tell you – you don’t know passion ‘til you hear a curator rave about a brushstroke.
Today’s picture – Woman Bathing in a Stream @nationalgallery - is a case in point because Rembrandt is WILD. Bold, sweeps of paint, sometimes so thick it’s 3D, other times so thin you can see the grain of the wooden panel underneath. You can feel him at work, all those centuries ago.
With interviews from @helen.hillyard@bartzcornelis@pieter_roelofs Francesca Whitlum-Cooper and Jonathan Bikker.
