This was an exciting project for us.
Commercial install at @theeightbellevue in Bellevue, WA. Includes custom Onken cabinets, 805a tar-filled horns, Altec 288 drivers and modern 15” woofers and tweeters with a custom passive 3-way crossover. We speced a Technics 1200GR and Leak amplifier to drive the system.
I just picked up these unusual original gold Altec 811b horns. I want to make something special with these. Thinking matte black cabinets with the original gold finish. Ping me if you want to build something unique
I’ve been working on this stack for what seems like forever. I’ve been slow to get back in the shop after @eylin_baus had her surgeries. So I just forced myself to take one step and cut the baffles for the mini-Modestas.
I’ve been dragging tail lately in general. Kinda bummed about the state of the world I guess. Trying to keep looking forward…

I’ve been listening to these Fostex full-range speakers in the reference back loaded horn cabinet in our condo on the beach for awhile and am still really enjoying them. The bass won’t shake your pant leg, but it is there. Mid range is that classic full range detail. Just a really enjoyable configuration for not a lot of coin or space.
I can’t say music solves all problems, but it helps.
It is has been a long week. My wife Eylin, whom you’ve probably met, if you’ve met me in the past few years, had multiple surgeries and is now recovering.
Times like this put life into perspective and reminds you what matters. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
I’m biased, but I think there is a whole different vibe between having some generic black boxes and a custom built and curated sound system at events. Especially more intimate pop-up events. I would like that people use my systems, but I also hope to encourage other people to do something similar
Today in Miami! I worked on this system with @tremendo.ss in Miami a few years back. It has been all over town since then. The mid-woofers are Altec 416a. Honestly they’ve withstood a lot of abuse and the system just keeps going.
After @eylin_baus and I got married we were living in downtown Raleigh, NC. I had a pretty minimalistic HiFi. Some custom speakers and a simple amp. I’ve gone back to that in someways with my current setup.
The last few years has been filled with ups and downs, but it has been a journey. The pre-COVID world feels like a lifetime ago.
