Gladstone, Oregon. Quiet neighborhoods, contemplative river, colour-splashed sky. Despite the innumerable setbacks I face every single film trip I take, there’s always a stunning sky, a perfect five minutes of quiet, that undoes all the stress.
It’s midnight on the West Coast. My friends and family are sound asleep on the East at 3am, and I’m desperately fighting the urge to feel like this trip was a total waste. Canceled interviews from COVID (get vaxxed please), incompetent editing computer, exhaustion, losing traction on social media.
I don’t know how this trip will end. If I’ll get all the material I needed to get. But what I do know is that I’m in freaking Portland, doing my dream job every day, because it makes a difference. I’m desperately aware that I’m living my dream, no matter how hard some days are. And to be quite honest, I couldn’t be happier.
I don’t know how I got here, but I’m so thankful to be. It’s sunsets like this one that remind me to chase beauty, no matter how hard it is. No matter how tired or discouraged I am.
This is the life. Falling asleep on the couch with Premiere Pro open on my dying laptop. The half-dozen cups of coffee to keep going. The empty bank account. This. is the life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
This year has been the beginning of an exciting journey for Catharsis. As we wrap the year with filming in Portland, OR, we can’t wait to see what next year holds for this powerful project.
