A secret first meeting between Churchill and Stalin in Moscow, 1942. My design explores the relationship between power, language and political personas. War negotiations take place on a giant 1940’s Soviet propaganda poster. The leaders vie for control, sitting at the centre of a graphic sunburst, positioning themselves like deities at the centre of the universe. The fate of the world rests on their ability to communicate. Language becomes a battleground for power.

@catfullerdesign Cat Fuller (Co-costume Designer) and I are discuss designing THE CONSTANT WIFE for the @thersc - now on tour with David Pugh Productions ( @davidsoho1 ) Set in the 1020s - the play revolves around strong female characters - making our focus the complexity of carving out a new identity for 20th century women. The two main characters - entrepreneurs and artist - represent a wave of feminism that signified a radical cultural shift away from old, conservative attitudes. Their individual style and the interior of their surroundings needed to embrace the boldness of their choices - showing how they challenged the patriarchal structures around them not with defiance, but rather by carving out their own freedom within them - their ability to imagine a life on their own terms - quietly but with determination paving the way for future generations. Our designs needed to embody our eternal admiration and gratitude to these women.
Introducing the team supporting me in creating the design for Lily Allen’s Saturday Night Live appearance: My US Associate Designer Frank Oliva was the man on the ground in the NYC. UK Associate Angelica Rush worked in my London studio with me and Cat Fuller helped create the visual designs and storyboard. Tallulah Caskey is brining it all to live on Instagram.
