In this photos I wanted to explore Renoir Dessendre’s divided soul.
On one side stands the painted Renoir, the image that Aline creates out of grief for their son’s death: a man crystallised in guilt, duty and impossible expectations. He carries the emotional weight of a family that could not be saved, condemned to relive the same silent moment again and again on the surface of the “canvas”.
Opposite to him, yet mirroring him, is the living Renoir. He appears less monumental and more vulnerable, stripped of the armour that paint gives him. Still, beneath their differences, both versions of Renoir share the same single wish: to protect what remains of their family, to hold together a world that is already breaking.
The mirror becomes the place where these two selves meet. In the first version you see the painted Renoir; in the second, Renoir Dessendre of the real world. Even the lights follow this passage: the warmer glow belongs to the painted dimension, while the colder, sharper light marks the threshold into reality.
