2016 was quite a year for me…a snowball of events starting with the unwitting adoption of a pregnant Siberian Husky led to me finally quitting my medical job and becoming a full-time musician. My father and one of my dogs had both just passed away the year before and I was still trying to pick up the pieces, surrounding myself with friends, work, and pets. 2016 definitely wasn’t easy, but it was pivotal. ❤️💔 #2016

It is now officially my third consecutive year serving as concertmistress for the SoCal portion of the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas tour, meaning that there are now three years’ worth of me making silly faces and failed BTS videos with the handsomest trumpeter in the world, @glennholdaway_ 🥰❤️ Getting to share the work you love with the person you love, especially when you are both instrumentalists who primarily play in wildly different genres, is such a rare and wonderful gift, so it means a LOT to me that Glenn and I have gotten these opportunities to play together for the past three years—and I have @lizmcbryde to thank for making all this happen for us 🙏🙌 The holidays are so much more fun now that we have @mannheimsteam to look forward to! I am definitely filled with gratitude this Thanksgiving 🥰

We have been saying that this is our most ambitious recording to date (BY FAR). 😮‍💨 “Cinematic Rocksteady!” Our version of the classic tune, “Nature Boy,” made famous by Nat King Cole, features instruments not usually incorporated in a ska or reggae album and definitely not all together. Our version was co-arranged by @wesperrymusic and @eitavi18 to include a full string section (24 tracks of cellos, violas and violins) recorded and edited by @cataclysmickoi PLUS 4 trumpets, 3 tenor trombones, 1 bass trombone, cimbasso, tuba, 2 tenor saxophones, 2 alto saxophones, 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, bari saxophone, bass clarinet, oboe, flugelhorn, full rhythm section (drums, upright bass, piano, rhythm guitar, and lead guitar!) A monumental task to create a full orchestral score for this rocksteady track! Run the track!!! Listen in the link in our bio. 🔗

Everyone on the team is so incredibly talented and kind and welcoming. I apologize for being gone for so long from social media and for not being in communication with my friends as much as I would like. There has been a lot of life stuff, both good and bad, that has been taking up all of my bandwidth for well over a year. I am truly sorry that has caused me not to be there for all of my friends’ ups and downs, so I do hope you will forgive me as I start trying to amend this. But in honor of my boyfriend Glenn Holdaway’s birthday, I thought it was important to take the time to come back today and make a post to let everyone know about the incredible accomplishments he’s had this past year that he is definitely too humble to tell you about fully. Last fall, he was tapped to go on a North American tour with THE biggest name in reggae: The Marley Brothers. It was all of the musical sons of Bob Marley together on one tour, so it was history in the making. Then, to our surprise, a concert from that tour was turned into a PBS special, which heavily featured Glenn: “The Marley Brothers: Legacy Concert.” Just after that, the original Sister Nancy documentary was released in U.S. theaters (“Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy story,”), which also features an interview with Glenn and some of Glenn’s playing, and that film has now won several accolades. Right after that, Glenn was asked to tour with another big name in Cali reggae, Fortunate Youth! So in the past year, he’s already been in 2 movies, 2 major tours, and he’s continued to do dozens of recordings, teach a full slate of private students, and also teach trumpet at 2 public high schools! On top of all that, Glenn managed to help make a dream that I’ve had ever since I was a little girl come true: we finally have our own horse farm! For the past year, we’ve been leasing a horse property, so my two horses have finally been able to live at home instead of having to be boarded. We built everything (besides the house) from scratch with our bare hands. And Glenn did this for me, even when he is the furthest thing from a horse person, because he loves me.
