August 6th, 2025 is 200 years of Bolivia—two centuries of Bolivian independence and liberation from colonization 🎉
I haven’t been to Bolivia in 10 years, but as distant as I am and feel, I love all the ways I connect with my culture: every time my mood lifts when I hear Jilguero Flores; every time I look at old photos of my first visit to La Paz as a child; every time I eat a salteña at #bolivianllamaparty, every time I think about the gift I gave myself traveling throughout Bolivia alone in my early 20’s—amazed and humbled by the diversity and history of my ancestral homeland; every time I think about my favorite memories with my family both here and there; every time I watch caporales dancers keep the culture alive; and the thrill I get every time I meet someone who shares this unique, rare, amazing heritage of mine 🇧🇴🇧🇴🇧🇴

Four years ago today, over 400,000 people marched through Manhattan following Trump’s inauguration. It was my first protest, and it felt important to photograph. The Women’s March was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever witnessed, participated in and documented. Four year later and on the first day of a new presidency, I’m feeling hopeful that this administration will work toward the values I saw written on picket signs and heard chanted loudly in the streets by women (and men) of every age and background ❤️
