these are pictures of the most incredible woman i’ve ever had the privilege of calling my grandmother. the woman with the most loving, accepting, no-filter, bad-ass personality i’ve ever seen. the woman who brought her children to a different continent in search of a better life after the 1979 iranian revolution. the woman who taught me to stand up for all loved ones, regardless of someone’s status, without any hesitation.
she’s the only person to ever tell me she wanted a celebration with music and dancing in place of a funeral.
when i was little and began to understand some farsi, i added the word “juni” to her name, meaning “darling”. this became her nickname for the rest of her life.
i love you more than you’ll ever know.
rest in peace nouri juni. 🐘
