With a floor plan that bridges the gap between intimacy and functionality, as well as plenty of English-inspired features, this Maryland home is a worthy tribute to the coziness and comfort of British design. A moody palette persists throughout the 4,900-square-foot layout, with moments of exhale in the form of light-drenched countryside views and deeply layered materiality. Hand-hewn beams nod to the home’s farmhouse roots, while design-forward additions—like a decked-out coffee bar and designer Charlene Petersen’s signature daybed nook—keep the space young at heart.

Say hello to our little friend, Chestnut Ridge 🤎🏡
The full project is featured in this month’s House Beautiful — link in bio.
An interior project with this level of detail and depth doesn’t happen by accident. It takes an entire army of brilliant minds working in rhythm: the librarian keeping materials flowing, the accountant wrangling the numbers and keeping the creatives (mostly) in check, the technical designer translating vision into buildable construction documents, the project manager steering the ship and turning paper into real life.
It takes designers obsessing over material transitions, ensuring form and function live in harmony, dialing in texture and color, and refining every trim detail so it’s not just beautiful—but purposeful.
At the heart of this project was the homeowner herself, @hollyclarecarey . The British visionary and director behind it all. Endless gratitude to the Cashmere Interior team. Your passion, precision, and commitment to excellence show up every damn time. 💥❤️ @hollyclarecarey@madeline_reter@soyink_@khourimaya@thevintagevogue@whitney.wallin@mylifewiththreeboys@jbowden1553@r8chelpaige@allydailey24@stewartmartie@charlenepetersen Photographer: @macchiaphoto

“I wanted color and a fresh take,” says Charlene Petersen owner and principal designer of @cashmereinterior “but I didn’t want to totally depart from classic feelings of living in the mountains.” The home’s crisp white walls serve as backdrops for the play of colors and the designer’s profusion of textiles. Meanwhile, the wood accents and reclaimed timber tethers everything to the richness of Montana’s natural beauty. Vibrant colors and textiles pepper the living room, from the Moroccan floor rug to the white-and-black vintage 1950s chair from Africa. Link in bio
