No matter when the cherry trees reach peak bloom, we’ll be ready. 🌸 It’s (almost) DC’s favorite time of year—cherry blossom season! For the impatient among us, look out for the vibrant blossoms of the Okame cherry, which bloom 1-2 weeks earlier than the Yoshinos around the Tidal Basin. And if you’re notoriously late to everything, don’t worry, the Kwanzan cherries bloom about two weeks after Yoshinos. For a map of cherry tree species across the District, including the native Black Cherry and Chokecherry, visit caseytrees.org/maps at the link in our bio. 🗺️

Join us in planting hope 🌳. Today, we’re excited to launch a campaign to plant 250 trees in the national parks that make our community feel like home. But we can’t do it without you. In partnership with National Capital Parks-East (a unit of @nationalparkservice ), our goal is to restore DC’s historic green spaces, where trees have stood witness to 250 years of American history. Every $500 donation to Casey Trees funds one professionally planted tree, complete with a certificate documenting your tree’s species and location. However, every donation counts. Whether you can give $500 or $5, your gift helps restore the parks we know and love. Visit the link in our bio to join us. 🌿

Summer may be around the corner, but these blooms are still kicking! 🌼 While DC is famous for its cherry blossoms, many trees still flaunt showy flowers through May and June. Look high and low for these pops of color throughout our city’s diverse tree canopy—before summer heat takes them away! 🥀 Ready to add one to your property? These beauties are available through our free tree program at caseytrees.org/free!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Whether it’s planting a tree, identifying a leaf, or learning why trees matter, our Education Team works year-round to guide and inspire students across the DC area. 📝🍎 We are endlessly grateful to our team – Melinda, Madeline, Emma, and Carl – and all our education partners! By cultivating curiosity and a love for the environment in our students today, their work sets the foundation for a greener, more resilient urban forest tomorrow. 🌳

Perfectly timed for Teacher Appreciation Week, meet our 2026 Canopy Award recipient for Education! ✏️ Garfield Elementary School in Ward 8 has become a model for hands-on, experiential education, connecting students with food, learning, and the natural world. Through partnerships with @foodprintsdc and Casey Trees’ Nature Near Schools program, students experience outdoor and garden-based education that brings lessons to life and deepens their understanding of healthy communities. 🍃 As Principal Rolle says, it’s the duty and responsibility of educators to prime students for our ever-changing world. We’re endlessly grateful to @garfield_dcps for empowering the next generation to see themselves as caretakers of their schoolyard, neighborhood, and environment. 💚

We were proud to join partners and advocates for the Green Budget Day of Action to call on the DC Council to restore critical funding for the District’s green future. The proposed budget cuts would gut many of the programs that maintain our parks and natural areas, make energy more affordable, clean our rivers, and bring environmental education to schools. From budget hearings to council offices, we’ve been speaking up for the funding that keeps our city green and resilient. 🌳💧💚

To Rebecca Renard-Wilson, nature is freedom. Instead of selling her family’s quarter-acre wooded land, Rebecca chose to place her childhood home into a conservation easement with Casey Trees 🌿 Now this land and its trees are protected forever. In the face of development pressures, Rebecca’s decision reflects her lasting commitment to green spaces. We’re honored she trusted us to be stewards of her land and are thrilled to award her the 2026 Canopy Award for Sustainability 🌳 Stay tuned next week to hear from our final Canopy Award honoree!

How does DC’s tree canopy score this year? 📝 This year’s Tree Report Card is officially here, in which we analyze the state of DC’s tree canopy. In a year marked by important milestones, including the 25th anniversary of Casey Trees, we’re proud to reflect on the progress we’ve made to protect and grow DC’s tree canopy. There’s a lot to be proud of in this year’s report card—and a lot of work to do to reach our 40% tree canopy goal. 🌿 Read the whole report and learn ways to get involved at caseytrees.org/trc — link in our bio!
